Also think Paul, Thia and Casey as the bottom three with Thia and Paul leaving tonight.

I was really disappointed in much of the show last night. Scotty chanelling George Strait singing Elton John. Pia impersonating Celine Dion singing Elton John. Paul (who really is Rod Stewart, but with whiter teeth) singing Elton John. Naima masquerading as Ziggy Marley singing Elton John. Etc., etc., etc. How I miss Simon - he would have had a classic night last night . . . . Bottom three should be Naima, Thia and Casey, with the girls probably going out. They all have talent, but I'm sincerely hoping that these niche singers can find a way to break out of their molds and do something interesting next week. So far the show has too many "one trick ponies".

1. I think Naima Adedapo is underated. I thought her reggae version of "I'm Still Standing" was excellent. Maybe her best performance yet. Loved the way she rolled the lyrics around in her mouth with that Caribbean accent. The judges often suggest the contestants make a song their own. No one did that better than Naima. Still they dis her.
2. I'm not a big fan of the quirky "Rod Stewart-ish" (good catch Collie) Paul McDonald, but my wife loves him and Rod Stewart. 3. Jacob Lusk has a huge voice, but I don't like the way he's been using it of late. He keeps losing me, but the judges think he walks on water. 4. Lauren Alaina has a fine voice, but doesn't connect with me and I get bored before her song ends. Again, my wife thought her excellent. 5. Thia Megia is a doll, and she has excellent tonal qualities to her voice. She had a very good performance with "Daniel". I don't know if she's connecting with enough people, though. My Filipino daughter-in-law and her huge family loves her. 6. Stefano Langone doesn't have enough charisma or talent in my book to be a top shelf performing artist. He would be great in the gazebo at Lake Sumter Landing, but the next American Idol. Well, not yet anyway. 7. Casey Abrams redeemed himself with his lovely version of "Your Song". I don't think the judges should have saved him though. I guess it'll all work out in the end. 8. Pia Toscano of Queens NY is a big fave of my family up north. This week she had an excellent performance and didn't go over the top like she often does. She has a real shot to be the next American Idol. 9. Haley Reinhart had a timely great performance. She's a singer with a quirky style that appeals to me. She could last a few more rounds if she keeps it up. 10. Scotty McCreery knows who he is and performs to his strength every week. He's got a big career in country music no matter how this competitions turns out. Another nice performance. 11. James Durbin's is getting carried away with himself as Adam Lambert did last year. He's got tons of talent, but I didn't think his performance of "Saturday's All Right For Fighting" was great for him. But he's definitely here to the top 5. Bottom Three? Up to me it would be Paul McDonald, Thia Megia and Stefano Langone

Richie, pretty much agree with you. I'm not a reggae fan, but I think Naima did a good job of turning it into her own. I'm really hoping Paul and Thia go home tonight. My gut, sadly, says Thia and Naima. Hope my gut is wrong.

Thanks Shirleevee and Red; I really appreciate your response to my amateur music reviews. I'm really tickled.
I'm watching the show, and Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine gives a little individual feedback before each performance, in those backstage clips, and it seems to me that the "judges" are using his comments to form their own reviews and it's coloring their assessment of the contestants performance. They keep referring to what he said before the contestants even sing live before the audience. They have to ignore that and just judge that live performance. They should be listening with an open mind, but I feel they already have their favorites and are critical of contestants they have predetermined opinions about. Naima, in particular, who rarely catches a break. This weeks performance was better than last weeks Motown which they praised. (for her dancing, unbelievably)

I miss Simon. I know I'm in the minority, but I do. The judges think that each and every contestant walks on water. I thought their job was to critiique singers, not to swoon over them all.

I thought there was something special about Naima Adedapo. I know she wasn't going to be the winner, but I would have sent both Stefano Langone and Paul McDonald home before her.

Richie, I think Casey should have been saved. There is no way he didn't deserve to be one of those on the tour (and all 11 will be touring). I totally agree that Stefano and Paul both need to go. Stefano is a LV lounge act at best. I think Paul is just too "soft." Paul Simon's voice seems to project better than his does. YAWN
At least Thia is gone. Now if only Pia would go. Maybe Stefano could open for her at a 2nd-level casino? (Okay, I'm being mean, but it's morning, I'm tired and grumpy. Mornings shoulld be banned from life!)
