Default Amtrak bus service

Read today in The Daily Commercial that Amtrak is considering adding a Villages bus stop to transport travelers to and from their train stations in Jacksonville and Lakeland.

It's interesting that the article says "Amtrak formerly provided passenger rail service to Wildwood, about eight miles from The Villages, but the stop at 601 North Main St. was terminated in late 2004." when the current Amtrak schedule issued in June of this year shows Wildwood as a bus stop. Interesting!

You might be misreading what was said, Skyguy. Up until 2004 the train actually stopped in Wildwood and you could get on the train there. Now, you can go to the same spot (the Amtrak Station in Wildwood) but you get on a bus to Jacksonville where you actually get on a train. The importance of a TV Amtrak bus stop is convenience and safety (the Wildwood site not being in the very best of neighborhoods).

You can also get on the bus in Wildwood and take it to the train in Lakeland, if you're traveling south to West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami, for instance. The Amtrak bus stop is located inside the old train depot.

You're right, I did misread the article. Thanks for the clearification! The Villages Florida

I would love this as train travel is my favorite mode of transportation. It does take longer but I use that time to rest up and read and with my laptop I can even catchup on movies I missed.
