Default Chicago to The Villages

Has anyone traveled from Chicago to The Villages using Rt. 57 to Rt. 24 and finally to Rt. 75? We have used Rt. 65 previously, but I thought a change in scenery would do us good. Google maps claims that it will only take a little over an hour longer. Would this route be a good choice?

That's a good alternative. Only about 40 miles longer if that.

Another nice ride is stay on I-65 down to Montgomery and take US 241 down through Dothan to I-10 across to I-75 or if you are in no particular hurry take the back roads across. This is a nice route if your timing is such that you want to avoid Atlanta in rush hour.

we traveled that about 6 weeks ago. It was a smooth trip other than hitting Atlanta during rush hour. Took about 40 minutes to get through that mess.

This might be a good time to avoid I-65 through Louisville. The bridge on I-64 is closed, so all that traffic is rerouted to the I-65 bridge. There have been some long delays.

Cool

We have driven I57 - I24 - I75 several times. We were always leaving from Central Illinois, so I74 to I57 in Champaign. We've always had good luck with this route.

When you get to Atlanta, be sure to use the HOV lane and you will zip right through. I've been through Atlanta on Friday @ rush hour and the HOV lane is moving good. I believe it's a great drive, right through the heart of Atlanta. Amazing sight at night.

Have a nice drive....

HOV lanes in Atlanta now are toll lanes and require a transponder. Went through Atlanta about two weeks ago and HOV lanes were empty - all other lanes were stop and go.
