Default European River Cruses

Has anyone taken a recent European River Cruse and experienced the record low river levels? We are scheduled to go from Amsterdam to Budapest and are finding out that the trip may be challenging for the River Boats.

I did read where one of their River Boats ran aground on a Sand Bar. They evacuated the boat and bussed the passengers to the next stop to resume.

Recently a neighbor had a Viking River Cruise & liked it. I recently watched a review on UTube regarding Viking & other lines. Have a look, it was nice.

We rarely buy travel insurance but we did for a planned river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam for late September this year.

We just cancelled based on recommendation from our agent, $1600 travel insurance allowed us to cancel a nearly $30,000 trip.

For a $30,000 trip, one should always purchase travel insurance. . .

well done! though now I am rethinking my desire for a european river trip between 30,000 and no water. .

It WILL be a problem if on Rhine river for any period of time, especially the area where castles are very dense (forget name). We just got off a Viking from Zurich to Paris, and did ALLOT OF bussing and a ship change. Jul and Aug bad on Rhine. They are having droughts, so likely Sept as well. Other rivers can be bad latter in year due to high water levels. If Viking, they bus you around and minimize disruption.....but was still painful. Did you trip last Oct and it was amazing

On our Viking Budapest to Amsterdam cruise, at one point the river was too shallow. We were told the night before of this situation and we had to pack our belongings and they collected the suitcases. The next day, we were on the bus for our scheduled excursion and had a great time. We re-boarded the bus and it took us to another location where we got on another Viking riverboat that was an exact duplicate of the one we had just left. We were given the same room number that we had on the other boat and all our luggage was in there waiting for us. It was a minor inconvenience packing and unpacking, but a major accomplishment for Viking. Had an absolute great time.

There are currently no river cruises moving on the Danube and none are expected to be able to until next year. You will be bussed from one boat to the next, which means repeated packing and unpacking.

I would extremely recommend canceling this trip as it will be a miserable experience.

Our plan next year > ArBnB in the UK > 2 Months. Had enough of cruises = crowds & same thing everyday. Plus the cramp living conditions along with noise.

Some love cruising ... What the attraction is a mystery to us. Same thing day in & day out.

Arrive at a port > Plan a trip or put up with more crowds & same boredom day in day out.

We have had enough. Total cruises (3) Never again.

Not sure what this has to do with low water levels around Amsterdam, but thanks for leaving room for those who enjoy cruising.

We did not have to change boats but were dropped off early and bused three t times to thevisitation area which was somewhat disruptive and maybe if for ,lunch you were on your own rather than having it on the boat. After the trip we were given $500 voucher for a future trip.each. We enjoyed the Paris to Bern river and two ocean trips more.
