If you enjoy history, Charleston would be the place. Investigate and plan for more enjoyment...

Folleys Beach is close to Charleston so you can have both, beach and history.

Been to both. Hilton Head is nice, but it seems a bit dated. Lots of golf, some good restaurants. Charleston is much better. Perhaps not the array of golf, but lots of history, sightseeing, and don't miss Paula Deen's restaurant. The foot is simply outstanding and you can get a variety of her cookbooks.

About a 25 minute ride from Charleston, you will find Isle of Palms which is an island with beaches and resorts..
There you also have golf. Highly recommend WildDunes resort Within WDunes, go to Port o Call, older units, but these have screened lanais right on the ocean! Right on the water! So you get Charleston and the beach as well. H Head is upscale and nice but pricey |

My parents lived in Hilton Head Plantation for 25 years before their deaths. I loved it because of its beauty and trees dripping with moss. However many of their "plantations" are gated, and you won't be able to sneak in to look at the homes. One time the guard would not let me in to check on my ailing parents, so a neighbor had to come to the guard house to verify my relationship to my parents.
I would do all the four - Savannah, HH, Charlreston, and Beaufort - if there is enough time. |
