We've always parked right at the port.
Here's some info: PortMiami - Parking & Transportation - Miami-Dade County

Have you considered driving down today and staying overnight at a hotel? That is our preference. There are alot of hotels that will let you park your car at the hotel from 7 to 14 nights if you spend one night at their hotel. It is so much relaxing than getting up super early and driving down the same day. Also very cost effective. A lot of times you can stay at the hotel and park for less than the cost of parking at the pier. Go to the website 'stay123.com' and look to see what is available. The hotel will shuttle you to the pier in the morning and you can start your vacation earlier by getting on the ship earlier and much more relaxed. You never know when an accident or something can tie up traffic and make you arrive late. I just looked on the website and for $89.00 you can stay at the Rodeway Inn Cruiseport for $89.00 and park for 7 days.

Here is what I do. I rent a car for the drive and turn it in at the airport. Then I get the free car rental shuttle to the port. Same thing on the return trip back. It works out to be about the same price as parking at the port depending on how long your cruise is, but at least you don't put wear and tear on your own vehicle.

Has anyone taken the train the day before? Or even 2-3 days before and see Miami first? Just wondering as we're thinking about this for next spring, depending on the train schedules. Train travel is a novelty to us - only do it on vacations in Europe and to DC so far, and subways in big cities here in the U.S.
We really enjoyed leaving from Raleigh, where I have a daughter, to DC and back last year. Very relaxing trip. |
