Default " New Carry On Luggage Rules " Jan. 1, 2026 ..

YIPPEE ... New Carry On Luggage Rules Go Into Effect .. January 1st, 2026 !

# 1 The TSA will have a Carry-On Luggage Machine that will be available at each Station to Properly Measure Luggage that is " Eligible " to fit in the " Overhead Compartment " or " Not " Period !

# 2 Next up if the Carry-On does not meet the requirement, then it Automatically goes off to the Cargo Hold...again period...Squawking, Complaining, Crying, Protesting, etc. will likely be taken as ho hum just another day at the " TSA ".

#3 The " Bonus " part (s ) for those of us who have always used Carry-On Luggage Sensibly & Properply the Bonus is...wait for it. It will cost the Guilty Travelers $$$ for Extra Luggage anywhere from $ 50.00 to $150.00 +.
Plus get this the " Entertainment " for us Sensible Carry-On-Luggage Travelers Watching the " Protesting " etc.

# 4 Another Bonus will be for the " Flight Attendents " many are Females who have struggled in the past to Lift the overweight luggage into the overhead.
I myself have helped them many, many times.

# 5 This is long overdue & welcomed by the vast majority of travelers it was only a Few I Couldn't Careless Travelers who did this on a routine basis.
I will take delight & laugh, at them & thank them for the entertainment..........

I agree that people are bringing on luggage which should be checked. Would you be kind enough to post your source? Thanks.

I'd like to see that, but that entire post is bogus. Very funny.

What I did find is:

Enforcement Changes: Starting in 2026, airlines will enforce stricter bag rules, potentially leading to unexpected fees or being denied boarding if you arrive with the wrong bag.

I would also hope they would stop waving people with 3 carry on bags right through the gate and force them to check those extras for a fee. Also, I would put an end to "gate fleas"--you sit until your group is called or you are automatically put in the last group.

@Howdy

Please post a link to a credible source of these so-called new 1/1/2026 TSA luggage rules when flying.

It’s strange that I can’t find any credible source for your post.

Or is this satire?

I couldn't find anything about the TSA monitoring carry-on bag sizes. My first thought is that if true, such a rule would add another significant bump in in the process of getting through the TSA checkpoints, the lines for which in many cases are already far too long and slow. In any case, even though the airline size limitations for carryon luggage are roughly similar airline to airline, there still ARE some size differences in what individual airlines allow.

What about the charge for putting an ordinary back pack in the overhead bin taking up valuable space when it could under your seat.

OK: Here is my reply to the question(s) as usual I will supply the source of my information unlike many here who post do not.

# 1 Here you are: " Google "... TSA New Carry On Luggage Rules Beginning January 1st, 2026.The new rules will include " Size & Weight " ! No Exceptions.

# 2 The cost for those who ignore the rules will be costly as I stated.

# 3 The Winners are the Travelers who obey the rules & the Flight Attendents who have in the past had to help put these heavy oversized luggage in the overhead.

# 4 The side " Bonus "of course as I posted the " Entertainment " when the Traveler is called out & diving thru His/Her Luggage to take out whatever..ahhh cannot wait.

# 5 I have enjoyed posting my original post & my follow up information. I wish more people would be as helpful as I try to be with useful information & provide the source. One can only wish. .........

If this is strictly enforced I predict we will see a LOT of complaining here about how unfair and unreasonable this policy is. I'm thinking along the lines of, "I wasn't SPEEDING, I was just keeping up with the flow of traffic!"

Strict enforcement of the rules seems great....right up to the point someone points at you for not strictly obeying the rules yourself.

Quite often it is the flight crew coming on with extra bags and taking up "our" overhead space before we even board. Do they really need two large bags for an overnight layover?

I have seen that also. Taste your own medicine - check your flight bags.

First things first: Settle Down. Put on Easy Listening Music..of your choice, lay back, close your eyes....that's it.... everything is going to be fine. When your ready ...read my post below.

# 1 Look at the Big Picture: The " TSA " = Employee Power. Keep that in mind.

# 2 New Rule = Enforcement ! Big Time.

# 3 Complainers = " TSA " Employee Dream Come True, That's what they " Brag About Over Breaks, Lunch, Gatherings etc. they all live for it & try to Top one Another.

# 4 This will easily Top a TSA person asking a traveler to " Empty their Carry On " for a Search...Equal to a Bases Loaded Grand Slam in the 9th Inning for them.

For the TSA this New Rule is a Dream Come True , for us Travelers who have been frustrated with these people for years, it's well & truly " PAYBACK !!

The solution is to eliminate the overhead bins entirely. Put your bag under the seat or check it.
