Default UBER to the Orlando Airport

If you have used them I’d like to know your experience.

We have a 10am departure on a Thursday via Delta. I like to walk into the terminal 1.5 hours before scheduled departure which is 10am.

If you have used them and considering it’s an hour drive to the airport. Using their APP what lead time do you suggest I give them to arrive at my door for pick-up around 7am.

We use Lyft and Uber to/from the airport regularly. Lyft has been typically lower cost than Uber of late so we have been mostly using them. You can schedule a ride in advance - you tell the app when you want them to arrive at your house. We typically arrange for pickup 4 hours before the flight and go to an airport lounge.

What prices are you seeing? I am researching Cybercabs and think their lower costs will be well received.

It varies but $100 is typical.

Uber runs cheaper for me. Just checked prices for your time next week (using schedule ahead) and $68 Uber and $85 for Lyft. You will be fine but remember it’s around rush hour for the working people traffic. You should be fine.

My son used Uber about 1 pm yesterday and cost about $ 100 before tip. Took about 75 minutes and driver arrived 10 minutes after original quoted time

They both use load dependent pricing so it depends when you go. For example, a pick up right now to go to the airport is $109 on Lyft and $114 on Uber. It pays to have both apps and check. In the past, Uber/Lyft seemed to always be around $180 coming back from the airport. We used Groome pretty much all the time. The typical prices now for Uber/Lyft are comparable to Groome (if you have 2), plus they are so convenient, so we have stopped using Groome.

I’m assuming the prices are significantly different from the greater Eastport area versus the greater Spanish Springs area? The price is the same for Groome anywhere in the Villages.

When you uber, don't make the mistake of thinking that ordering it a day ahead is cheaper. It is not. My last trip to Tampa port, if I ordered the night before, it was going to be $249. I waited until I was ready to go and had one pull up to my house for $115. To Tampa. That's a bargain.

Yes, there is some variance in the pricing. We know what the range is now so we prebook when we see a price we like, typically a few weeks in advance. I think our all time low was something like $75 to MCO.

Do you tip with Uber and Lyft or how does that work?

Yes, cash or through the app.

You tip in the app. After you get dropped off, go back into the app and it will prompt you to rate the driver and leave a tip. I don't recall if it suggests percentages or dollar amounts but I always type in a dollar amount.

I wouldn't expect them to be significantly different. Uber/Lyft prices will be calculated based on availability of drivers, distance, likelihood of picking up a new rider in the area, and possibly a premium to encourage a driver to accept your ride. Eastport and Spanish Springs are not that far apart compared to the distance to Orlando and are both remote as a ride share destination.

Just checked (7AM Friday) for a ride to MCO
Spanish Springs: $94
Brownwood: $100
Eastport: $98
NOTE: Wait times were listed either as 15 minutes or "Longer Wait," neither of which gives me a good feeling about a car being available. Scheduling ahead might be worth the extra fee.
