Since many on this forum are cooks, I wonder if anyone can help. My (very expensive and years old) mandoline slicer blade needs sharpening. Anyone know where in TV there is someone who professionally sharpens kitchen knives, who could presumably do this? I went to a Pampered Chef party last night, and a new mandoline was well over $100, so I'd like to restore mine if possible! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

No, from Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table - and so old I'm sure they don't want to talk to me about it :-) (nor do I want to go to the expense of shipping it somewhere).

Unfortunately, if the blade edge is rusty, it is beyond help. It's toast.
If it is just dull- and you can find a registered barber who knows how to hone and strop a razor, they may be willing to hire out to do it for you (they can tell by looking at it if it is worth doing). It will require using a whetstone. I did see what I think is a sharpening place, very near the Ace Hardware on the edge of Southern Trace Plaza. You might peek around there, if you are in the area. Perhaps you could narrow that down in the phone book. If you still have an old manual for the mandoline, there may be info there, or online replacement parts, if your mandoline is a commercial one and you can identify it. As a last resort, you could try it yourself (again with a whetstone) using an online tutorial- but be VERY careful of your fingers, even if you think the blade is dull! It is not worth a trip to the ER. |

If all else fails, I have a brand new one (still in box) that I would be happy to sell to you. However, it is not an expensive one. If you are interested, send me a PM. It's a one handed mandoline slicer. $25.00 (price marked on box) which is what I paid.

Thanks for the comments, think I will scout around Ace and if that fails, call Williams Sonoma.
