What is in today's grocery store chickens?
One of the reasons we stopped eating (meat and) chicken is explained in the link below to the Dr. Oz show. Kudos to him for facing the politics involved with confronting the food industry.
The other reasons are moral and ethical because we are animal lovers and will not support nor take part in the way food animals are abused on today's farm factories. Anyway, watch the attached clip, do your own research, and make your own decision: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/whats...s-chicken-pt-1

I wanted to see the next episode where he talks about how to proceed if we still want to eat chicken (God or evolution didn't give me these canine teeth to tear through tomatoes).
What should someone like me do to eat 'healthy' chicken? |

Eat it today, wear it tomorrow?

The evidence is in favor of your decision, but the industries and lobby to the contrary is $billions if not $trillions. We go back to the 60's on diet clean up - back when it was said it takes 16 lb. of grain to make a lb. of beef.... blah blah blah back then and yada yada yada now, we know.,... 'the taste' Find what's really good for ya, give it a shot, maybe you'll get used to it.... Way back in the last century we discovered a few great books , including [ame="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060084480/ref=nosim/drmirkincom"]http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060084480/ref=nosim/drmirkincom[/ame] and: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Free-Flavor-Full-Mirkins/dp/0316574732/ref=pd_sim_b_1"]http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Free-Flavor-Full-Mirkins/dp/0316574732/ref=pd_sim_b_1[/ame] co-incidentally researched and penned by fellow TV residents, with encouragement from their 105 year old now-TV resident Mom. Since they wrote the book, Chicken and Mammal meat have all but vanished from their diets. Now, if you are serious about anti-meat and chicken, and are felling a little fiesty and radical, there's always.......(caution, viewer discretion suggested for some of the video/audio) http://www.cok.net/ disclaimer: we are not affiliated with the referenced organization, so don't throw eggs at us when you see us on our bikes! We prefer tomatoes!! Kudos to the TOTV organizers for choosing Crispers - they have a great selection of plant-based selections and promote fresh eating. Hopefully there will be an organization or club fr healthier eating in TV. L and L L and L

Have you ever wondered what kind of insecticides they are putting on your vegetables when they grow them or if they are using contaminated water to water the vegetables or how they are cleaned or stored or shipped? Maybe Dr Oz (another Oprah protégé like scumbag Dr Phil) should do a presentation on that.

The source of our food is a controversial topic, which should be given more attention. If you do the research and find out the truth behind what you are eating, you may pay more attention to the source of your food.
No one is suggesting that you stop eating meat, ZCaveman. The point is to find meat that is healthy for you and not poisoning your body and causing a variety of illnesses. We like our Cavemen healthy! Thank you, Larry and Linda, for attempting to educate folks about the atrocities on factory farms and the tortuous lives our food animals live prior to enduring a frightening and inhumane slaughter. If more people knew what really went on in these factory farms, then I'm sure we humans would not stand for it and things would change for the better. Use to be that I believed that cows and chickens lived in pastures and in outdoor coops until it was time for slaughter. Things are not like they used to be. Even if our food animals were not pumped full of antibiotics and hormones, the nutrition would still be flawed because they are kept in unimaginable filth, living on top of each other, and never seeing sunlight or touching grass or having one minute of normalcy. How can these poor practices produce food that is healthy? Do the research yourself . . . and see if you will continue on as before buying the readily available/convenient, pretty packages of steak and chicken in WalMart and grocery stores . . . rather than finding sources of healthy meat. Watch the video: "Meet Your Meat" narrated by Alec Baldwin. It is easy to find on YouTube, for those of you brave enough to learn the truth. If you are afraid to watch the above video, then at least watch the move "Food, Inc." which came out this year and is available at Blockbuster in TV. It is less frightening and shields you a bit, and deals quite a bit with how the factory workers are treated. Or, read the book The China Study which can be a pretty boring book unless you are interested in nutrition and scientific experiments. This book addresses nutrition, and changed my life.

Forgot to mention T. Colin Campbell.... We heard him on the air one nighty and kept waiting for 'the Pitch' - Videos, programs, supplements... But no, a book We immediately read it, bought a wholesale lot through our bike shop, and began selling, loaning, and giving them away. Nothing but thanks, even from meaty types Seems liken those that do jerk the knee are those like to eat for fun, taste, and the social aspects This seems fine, and we realize even moderation should be taken in moderation....; 'some of our best friends' are not plant-based But that which is best is not that which is advertised nor profitable, so why would it be promoted or advertised?? the best things we can grow ourselves and minimal processing. One source said =that which is on the perimeter of the grocery store is refrigerated and real food that which is on shelves is often less than food There was an experiment that showed twinkies outlasted the packaging Another showed more fiber in some cereal boxes than the cereal!! We thought of cereal after that as something to put the milk on, til we discovered that 'liquid meat' was something we needed to eliminate too. Speaking of eating out... Here's a fun one: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9J1b3MqiX8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9J1b3MqiX8[/ame] Caution: Adult Content L and L

Penn and Teller know all about illusions. Too funny!
Reminds me of that blind wine tasting when experts chose Charles Shaw's wine as one of the best. All the big wineries were miffed. That wine is now nicknamed "Two Buck Chuck" and sold in Trader Joe's. But in this case, it really is good! We sure miss Trader Joe's . . .

I understand your views, however if chickens were raised like they used to be the price of them would be much higher than it is now.
Money is almost always the bottom line and the big decision maker and decision changer. I think eating less meat and more produce is a good way to improve your diet. I try to serve colorful meals. A variety of colors in vegetables and fruits is easy and healthy too. |

Gracie, you are very right! Wholesome meat costs more than the unhealthy meat. Big business is out for profits with no regard to our health. We must all look out for each other.
I'm with you -- lots of veggies and fruits and a good variety.
