I've always heard that the police give you 10 MPH over the speed limit on the highways and have passed many a speed trap doing that and not been stopped (Knock on wood.). When in England a couple of years ago I was told that they give you 10% over the speed limit.

My cart can squeeze out 22 MPH on a flat (According to my Garmin.) and I think that 2 MPH is hardly a huge difference. As someone said earlier here, most can walk faster than that. The county issues a ticket for the cart being unregistered simply because it's a higher fine. Some politician decided that, I'm sure.

What they should do is ticket for speeding and require that the vehicle either be made street legal and registered or "unmodified" and have the vehicle owner show proof of compliance to the county within a specified time frame. All at the cart owner's expense, including the speeding fine.

Bottom line is when you are on a public street or road in your golf cart - do not go faster than 20 mph. If you do not have a speedometer and want one installed, it is not a bad idea at all to do so.

Same thing goes for drinking a beer in your golf cart on a public road. It is against the law - do not do it.

Yes, I know it's the law. But there are literally 100's of laws on the books that are not enforced to the letter. Most of these lightly enforced laws do not bring any cash into the county.

The new admin did post some intention to be tougher on trolls and disagreeable posters. I too miss your insights, but to be honest, it seems you are being a little oversensitive to the above post. that did not seem to me to rise to the level of insulting, given his statement that he missed your posts. jmho Ed

I think more carts should be cited for overcroudedness than going 2-4 mph over the speed limit. Some carts I've seen look like the little car in the circus where 10 clowns will get out. Only we're not dealing with clowns (well maybe the driver) but mostly very small children.

My last word on the subject of being civil. The easiest way is to not call anyone out personally. Some jokes don't come out well in written form. If we stick to the subject then things are usually fine. As far as being too sensitive to the post you'd have to have walked in my shoes over the past 4 years on this board. I normally have a very thick skin and I'm one of the most patient people you would ever meet. But I had some PM's that were borderline theatening (remember, because of my openness most people can figure out where I live). I took these PM's very seriously. It's just not worth it.

But this is a good topic so let's not turn this into a 'Russ' drama production.

I'll hang around in a much more limited fashion than before.

Please explain to this novice how these carts are going over 20mph. From what I have read on the spec sheets from the different manufacturers, 15mph seems to be the max norm for gas carts and 19mph for the electrics. I am very curious because in about 4 weeks my next purchase will be a cart.

Just my thoughts on cart speedometers.... If you are stopped for going a little over the limit and have a speedometer installed, it'll be pretty hard to plead ignorance as in... "Sorry, I don't have a speedometer on this cart and I haven't modified anything ?????"

I use SPEEDVIEW on my Android phone to check speed once in a while... I have not modified my cart in any way, but I have hit 28mph, going downhill with the wind at my back. On the level, it runs at about 22mph. Then there's my electric cart that refuses to go more than 20mph via electronics.

The governors can be adjusted. I have a speedometer on my cart and I really like it. It has an odometer too, which comes in handy to check my gas milage and it has a trip mode which I like, too.

This might seem obvious, but I have also checked my golfcart speed very easily using my GPS. It seems to be quite accurate.
This might be a solution for some who may not wish to go through the hassle/cost of installing a speedometer.
