I have had some golf cart drivers try to pass me on a busy road and sometimes have to pull back because the cars also in the road are going well over their speed limits.

Made me cuss. (Did you hear me?)
Love you GG, you know that. But in all fairness, if you didn;t know how fast you were going you cannot factually state it "wasn't slow"

Best post you've had in a long (long, long) time

So true. There is absolutely no reason for somebody to pass me when my lithium EZ-Go cart is factory set at 22mph and I am going at max speed. And I get passed on a regular basis.

Generally speaking, we are already exceeding the design specs for max safety at 20 mph. Why can't the "daredevils" be satisfied with that when operating on public roads and parking lots. If you want a go-cart, go to a race track or buy your own place where you can act the fool all you want and put no one else in jeopardy. No need to stress over a couple mph, imho.
Sorry, no sale. If it were not about the fee, why do "they" allow you to go 25 in the exact same cart (mechanically) if you pay them. Are you stating the DMV intentionally allows those that pay the registration fee to operate their cart at an "unsafe" speed. I guess, why not. They let you operate at 25 on BV and Morse with 18 wheelers going 50. But your argument no longer holds any water

But will you feel the same when that impatient jerk has road rage and runs you into a ditch, or worse?

While you are right, you don't want to end up dead right. Is it worth it????

This is a retirement community...Poor judgement is a given...Just be aware and deal with it and expect nothing of others. The problem is not the carts going 25+ mph...It is the carts that pass wanting to go 1 mph faster. I really feel bad for bikes and pedestrians on the MMPs. Peoples poor judgement makes it dangerous for them.

Not a lot of Americans can conceive just how dangerous it is to pass on the right at highway speeds. Most accidents involve passing on the right. I love driving the German Autobahn...the lane discipline is nearly flawless which allows for safe unlimited speed

I think that you are making a good point. In my opinion people are speeding in golf cars and larger vehicles because of not enough Police enforcement (which we ALL PAY FOR). I also think that people got used to speeding during Covid when the roads were more vacant and they never returned to normal. Also, there is a lot of drinking that goes on in The Villages - it is like a MAIN Villages SPORT - DRINK AND DRIVE your golf cart and car or truck. Alcohol consumption is like a RELIGION here !

Yes, by all means. Let's post a police officer every 50 feet. Let's put cameras in every nook and cranny in the world. Let's make everyone carry "papers" They can dictate what to do, what to say and what to think. Sounds familiar??? Oh, wait, I did read that book.

They could place a police car at various places. It could be empty as that often works around the Villages. I will slow down a bit when seeing one of these but I get close I see there is no one in it.

Or set up dummy cameras on the roads. Just the sight of them will make some slow down.

Subject: golf cart speed
Question: I'm only going 19mph why is everyone passing me?
My solution: Might want to jack up your governor to 21-23. No one will know, no one will care. The "breaking the law stuff" is really a gray area as long as you aren't driving recklessly all over. It's the +25ers that some seem to get in a huff about. I just let em pass. But with more speed please have more responsibility. There's a doc in town who has treated numerous people from golf cart accidents, so try not to be one of them. You can get permanently messed up in a GC crash... can be life changing...like a car crash. Straightaways you can step on it when clear but slow down for those curves in the road and watch for other people.

As for wear and tear, yeah you'll have to replace worn governor parts sooner so I wouldn't jack it over 25.

I think they should just put decoy turtles in the roads to slow traffic
You can always count on traffic talk to trigger the Karens

Many golf carts in straightaways are going around 25-30. Some faster.
