Default Eco-friendly home choices

Hi everyone -

We are in the process of moving to TV, and building a home there. We can't wait!

I have allergies and sensitivities to chemicals, fragrances, etc. Does anyone know if TV designers offer eco-friendly cabinets and flooring alternatives? Our sales agent did not know about this.

Also, what about nearby stores offering eco-friendly furniture and mattresses?

Thanks!
Gail

When we moved here last summer, I was very dizzy for a whole week due to the new paint smells and the outgassing of the carpets. We had to sleep in 90 degree weather with the windows open for a week. When the sprinklers came on at night (twice a week), the smell of the sulphur in the water was ghastly, also.

I would recommend you have them ceramic tile the whole house and have them paint it with no-VOC paint from the Benjamin Moore Paint Store. You can also buy solid wood furniture from the Wood You Furniture Store in Ocala Wood You Furniture | Unfinished Furniture Florida | Ocala, Florida. Try the internet for "organic" mattresses.

I myself understand you plight.

I bought two Pure Ions from the Florida Ocala Brookstone and left them running in hope they clean up the new home smells.

As soon as we turned em on they started zapping. After two days the dirt they pulled out was amazing. Then they started getting cleaner.

I think The Village buys all products via contracts with local vendors. Your would have to ask the design team who is your contractor and then he would have to work with his vendors.

I don't know if that is even possible. You will have to work with your saleperson.

Courtyard and CarGuys -

Thank you both so much for your suggestions! We had already considered ceramic tile throughout, and will talk to the Design team. We thought about having some hardwood floors, but are concerned about the finish used.

We'll be sure to have the Design and Sales persons on top of things with the contractor.
