I have a friend whose three married sons won't come get their childhood-to-college stuff out of their basement. She said she's going to leave it there with notes on it for when the kids are cleaning out their house after they die: "I TOLD you to come get this stuff!"

We had a rented storage room and finally said we're canceling the rental, you have x amount of days to retrieve your stuff before it gets tossed. Miraculously, it worked.

Last time we were at our son's house, I casually left his baby book in their dining room. I decided it was time to give it up now that he's married 7 years. They were blown away with it.

My question is for all the multiple movers, do you have mortgages? I would love a bigger garage and a smaller yard but I am not willing to have a mortgage, soooooooooooo, I will stay right where I am. Just asking????

If we havent used it in a year then we don't need it! That's how you down size. No the kids don't want grand ma's china or glasses in the dining room hutch. What's important to you is not important the the ones behind you.

Just a question about moving- When I lived in the state of my birth I bought several houses there and closing costs weren't too much. However, when I moved to the state where I currently live and bought a new home in a new development closing costs were a staggering $15,000 (approx) and this was several years ago. About how high are closing costs for those of you that remember? Rough ballpark is fine. I can't see moving and paying $15,000 every few years on top of commissions just for more storage space. It MUST be less than that!

No mortgages for us.
