Default Music Choices on The Squares

I have lived in The Villages for 7 years. I understand completely that people like to dance.

And the entertainment specifically told me that they "MUST" play dance music.

But dancing every day. Gee.

We are missing like 75% of actual music that was written for "Listening".

John Denver, The Carpenters, Simon & Garfunkel, etc.

Just Saying.....................................

Hummm, lived here more than twice that long and have heard the music of John D., Carpenters, etc. many times. Sorry don't know which groups we were listening to at the time, but many different groups do play those and many more examples of listening songs... but there ARE going to be people that get up and dance to anything; that's always going to happen... would probably have a few who would get up and dance to symphony selections... LOL ! Enjoy, try some groups you may have never tried ? Most have websites where you can go to find out more about their play lists. We are just so depressed at the loss of the Caribbean Chillers after all these years... wonder if any "Buffet" type group will ever be as good... probably never

There's a radio station for that.

Dunno about that. We were at Spanish Springs last evening for the wine walk and Rocky and The Rollers, who are easily head and shoulders (most of the upper torso probably, as well) better than any other group we've heard. They were about as "buffet" as you can get (assuming what I think the quoted poster meant by the comment), reaching back to before World War II and the Big Band sound for "In The Mood" followed by "Sing Sing Sing" (the drum solo was sensational!), including songs popularized by Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong ("What a Wonderful World" vocalist even had the gravelly voice down pat), etc., as well as rock from the 50s to at least the 80s, all done very well.

Hell yeah! I'm 65 and want that. lol. Throw in some Foo Fighters, Green Day and U2 as well!

Screw all that overplayed old crap. Too many people think they stopped making good music in 1980.

We saw the Hooligans play at LSL last year under their alias name "Anti Idol". They played Meatllica, Foo Fighters, Van Halen and lots of newer stuff.
The place was packed and people were standing like it was a rock concert.

There's obviously an appetite for this type of music. They need to have it more often.
Old music doesn't always mean good music! C'mon peeps,an open mind is a healthy mind.

I like all the suggestions so far.

Throw in a little Uriah Heep and I’m a happy guy!

Iron Butterfly! I can still remember dorm room windows being open and In a Gadda Da Vida playing loudly on innumerable stereos.

Wow, you mentioned Tool!!! I just said to my partner "I wonder if they'll ever play Tool in the squares? Most songs are tough to dance to, but some of the most intelligent rock music. I'm definitely one for 90s and newer music to be played, as well as the older stuff.

How about some Christian bands every once in a while? They have music that people can dance and enjoy listing to also. I’m tired of all the nothing but rock and metal music. Why have they disallowed Christian music even at the pay venues like savannah center. At least allow a few Christian songs on the radio. There are a lot of Christian Rock groups now.

I’d like to hear some
AC/DC, Van Halen, Rush. 80’s and 90’s.
