Yes, the Daily Sun is sometimes lax about reporting "negative news."

Is life in "The Bubble" perfect? How could it possibly be when there are some 85,000 residents and an increasing number of outsiders, some of whom are, shall we say, jealous?

Nowhere in this long thread did I see any hint: what age group were the perpetrators of this incident?

Should Villagers be scared? No. It's such a rare event.

Should Villagers be armed? H*** NO!

Should Villagers ask for a greater Law Enforcement presence at the squares? Quite probably, especially as we continue to grow!

Is this incident reason for wannabees to steer clear of The Villages? No way!

'Nuff said!

Stay away from the political forum Steve, you are far too reasonable.

A note to the people on the forum who haven't made the move to TV yet....this is a rare occurrence! Don't let that deter you from moving here. Compared to any other U.S. town or city, our crime rate has to be just about the LOWEST in the nation! (thank God!)

We moved here from south suburban Chicago...so TV's apparent "dullness" is such a welcome change for us. Got tired of finding spent bullet casings in the gutters in front of our house up north, as well as empty crack cocaine packets and booze bottles tossed on our front lawn!

About the kids on the squares....a lot of the locals (teenagers and older) come to our community for entertainment...most likely because there is NOTHING in their towns, except trouble. I can only imagine how happy parents of these teens are to have a safe place (TV) for their kids to come to after prom, homecoming and just to hang out in.

So far, all the young people I've seen on our squares have been polite and respectful. I think the majority of them appreciate having a nice place to come to. Those few that don't behave, are usually "escorted" off the squares by the police, in pretty short order. (I've never witnessed this, but have been told it's happened).

Compared to Chicago New York would appear to have a low crime rate.:D

For those who want to read about what's happening in The Villages subscribe to the Orlando Sentinel.

Keep in mind that the Town Centers are opened to the public that is those townsfolk that live along the perimeter of The Villages.

Remember that we not only have residents (permanent or seasonal) and their guests but also renters and their guests. So it is unreasonable not to expect criminals don't live work or play among us and that they won't act out.

As to the LSL incident it may have been over a drug issue.

I stay away from the town centers especially during the prime season as it is too crowded.

The Law

THere was a question regarding whether over 65 actually was a consideration in Florida. Here I believe is the answer to that question:

Aggravated battery is a battery offense that involves some aggravating factor. This type of battery offense is typically considered a felony offense, and the perpetrator can face incarceration, fines, and many other punishments. For an offense to be considered aggravated battery one or more of the following factors may have been involved: the battery was committed against a protected person (a child, peace officer, or person over 65 years of age); the battery involved a weapon (whether use was real or threatened :ho:

Did the Orlando Sentinel have a news story about the incident at LSL with the pipe?

Honestly, owing to a busy weekend, I didn't look closely enough

bkcunningham1 10-10-2011 02:45 PM

That's okay. Thanks anyway. I was just wondering if anyone has actually read an account of what happened.

It seems to me throughout the 7 pages of posts on the subject that no one personally saw the incident and only one person says "a friend" saw it.

Do we really know what, if anything, happened? This is kind of like the kid's game of "Postman" where someone tells a story and see how it progresses around a big circle.

I have my doubts if someone jumped out of a car and beat on someone else with a steel pipe. Maybe someone fell down and got scraped up and the story took off from there.

A friend of mine talked to a guy at Bogart golf course and he was told nothing happened.

I was in RJ Gator's saturday evening when we saw the police lights outside. Then the EMTs arrived. I walked outside and there I met my friend who was visibly shaken. He had been crossing the square near Red Sauce when it happened.Do not think that this incident did not happen. It did, and I saw the aftermath. There were many people at the outside bar at Red Sauce and the police were questioning them.

Russ_Boston 10-10-2011 04:53 PM

Were the people residents of TV? Younger? Older? Know each other? Random?

Anybody have any facts other than a steel pipe?

BnCinME 10-10-2011 05:19 PM

I just checked the Orlando Sentinal and didn't find anything. I agree with an earlier poster-it's a wonder that no one from TOTV was there and witnessed the incident. It appears to be third hand news. :blahblahblah:

I don't know who said anything about coyotes, but one did kill my neighbors dog.
