Default Sinkhole in Calumet Grove

Just saw a note on a Villages FB page about a huge sinkhole that has devoured multiple homes near the postal station in Calumet Grove. Antone have any further info about this?

PLEASE.... I'm trying to enjoy this movie. Stop yelling FIRE!

From The District Web Site: (That few read)

Depressons along McLawren Street
Due to the depressions along McLawren Street and adjacent to two houses, the roadway near McLawren Street and McAlpin Street within the Village of Calumet Grove, and the 8th and 9th holes of the Torri Pine Golf Course may be closed intermittently. Public safety professionals are currently evaluating and addressing the safety impacts to the general public. Motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and golf cart users are asked to avoid this area and pay attention to all directional and informational signage. For further information, please contact the District Customer Service Center at (352) 753-4508.

The other news service says that 4 homes have been evacuated and 2 of those have been declared uninhabitable.

I agree it does. But is it "a huge sinkhole that has devoured multiple homes?" The correct info. was on the District Site before this site or the other site. Some want facts, some don't. To each his own.

Have a good day.

Wow! Those are impressive - or perhaps depressive! I feel for the homeowners.

That par 3 eighth hole on Torrey Pines just got a lot easier. And you thought the cups were big on El Santiago.

Channel 9 news spoke of 3 sinkholes, the largest one (apparently between the 2 homes) is estimated to be 18 feet in diameter and 30 to 35 feet deep. The photos from the helicopter (or drone) were very impressive, definitely looks like a sink hole to me.

Lets hope the villages can contain this and repair as quickly as possible.

I do think that people are concerned and it IS a sinkhole! Not unless the pictures are fake and Marion County Sheriffs Office is also fabricating the story

Looking from behind calumet postal station. You can clearly see two of the sink holes, no depression, but holes with workers measuring/monitoring the depth. Actually you can walk up on #8 ladies green and get closer look. The pond now down at least 6 foot between #2 and #8 holes, somebody said they are draining it down.

There are sinkholes in Florida. It is no one's fault. People can be hired to fix them. It is not a conspiracy. You can call them sinkholes and you can call them depressions. They scare the hell out of people and they look for someone to blame. It is not the overuse of water or the water table going down. We live in an area that has sinkholes. It is far worse near Tampa, but the South Central part of Florida has sinkholes.

While sinkholes do occur naturally in Florida, especially in the Tampa Bay Area, the water table dropping on account of ground water depletion can also cause them.
