I've had 2 phone calls offering me a $200 lottery win, and I just said no the first time, but when the same person called the second day, I told her in no uncertain terms to take me off her list!

Good luck with that. They don't care. The only way to really get their attention is to waste their time by keeping them on the line as long as possible.

You want to put your phone numbers on the DO NOT CALL LIST-very easy to do ON LINE.
Then, many people do not bother to do it so it goes on. You want to report any call from solicitors that you get. A complaint cost the caller $100 each time.

Surveys are not covered on the do not call list. That is the reason why you may get alls we are doing a survey of people who have a water softener. You reply we do not have a ....... water softener. Now they haqve a qualified lead of people who live in the villages and do not have a water softener.

We all get these calls at diner time when they know you will likely be home. I usually just let my phone system answer the call. IF, IT IS SOMEONE I WANT TO TALK TO THEY WILL LEAVE A MESSAGE. IF, IT IS SOMEONE SELLING STUFF THEY DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE AND HAVE A BLOCKED NUMBER. If, I stupidly pick up and get one of these surveys I tell them I will not give out any personal information. First question is usually is this MR....
my reply is that is personal information.

Go to Nomorobo.com. We registered with them. It's a free service that has greatly cut down on unwanted calls from robo and telemarketing phone calls. The phone rings once and then stops.

Doesn't matter they come back every time. I refuse to answer my phone unless I am certain that it is a call I want to take. If its legit then the person will leave a message for a return call

The DO NOT CALL list is a joke. Telemarketers ignore the list and the Government doesn't enforce it. I have reported violators, but have gotten no follow-up or feedback, so I stopped reporting. It is very difficult for an individual to enforce the law because you can't really know what company has authorized the call.

I believe that surveys are covered by the law, but not political surveys or charities. Most calls from charities are not made directly from the charity, but from a company authorized to call on behalf of the charity. These "authorized" companies are required to stop calling you if you ask them, but not the charity itself. By the way, if you give money to a charity through a telemarketer, the marketing firm usually keeps about 80 percent of the money you give.
