Default Address Conflict?

We have purchased a home in Liberty Park in the Villages. We have not been there yet but are planning this October. My daughter will re-mail our bills to Florida until we decide how long we are going to stay before we forward our mail.
My question is: I am told my address is "The Villages." If I plot my trip using a computer map, it tells me its "Wildwood." We have also been told its "Lady Lake?"

Default Address

It depends where you live as to the city. When I have letters or bills sent I give The Villages, Florida 32162.

I always get everything.

As long as the street address/PO Box and ZIP code are correct (and even better if you know your ZIP+4 Code) it does not matter whether you use TV or the actual city where the Post Office is located.

Have your mail addressed to "The Villages, FL 32162"; no other designation as that is your address. You don't live at the Post Office, you live in The Villages. Please ignore the other posts.

As a current Letter Carrier for the USPS, RichieLion is correct.

Shortly after moving here I had my driver license updated to reflect my new address which was "The Villages 32162". Five years later at renewal the State arbitrarily recorded my address as "Lady Lake 32162".

During my travels I am frequently asked for my zip code. I inform them it is 32162 and they hit a few keys on their computer and sometimes come up with Lady Lake and sometimes The Villages. One time on a trip up I95 we stopped at a motel and the clerk checked our zip code and it came up The Villages. She then asked for an ID and I showed her my driver's license and I started to explain why it had Lady Lake and she said she already knew. She said lot of Villagers stop at that motel.

The Developer was able to get a zip code for The Villages but was never able to get a post office. Consequently, zip code 32162 is processed through the Lady Lake post office along with zip code 32159.

Zip code finder:

http://www.zipinfo.com/search/zipcode.htm

First put in 32162 as the argument and see the results and then retry with The Villages, Florida as the argument and see the choices.

Check all of the boxes to see all you can get out of the search.

If you go to USPS.com, which I feel is the regulating agency for zip codes and type in the street address and just the zip code, no town name, it will come up with The Villages FL 32162.

live in Sunset Point which is just before Liberty Park, and the address I use is The Villages, FL 32162. If you use Lady Lake, which is where TV started and started small (on the east side of Hwy. 441, back then it was Lady Lake, but now that TV is as big as it is and is still growing, use your street address and then TV for your city. You do not include the village in which you live.
When I first came here in 2002, I used Lady Lake and my mail took an extra 2 days to get to me, so just use TV, FL 32162.

But, there are so many ways to say " just use The Villages, FL 32162".

Many systems do not understand "The Villages" and default to "Lady Lake."

I personally insist upon "The Villages" and throw away the many return address labels I receive, unsolicited, with "Lady Lake." It's a picky-picky situation, I know, but I'm frequently a picky-picky sort!

I was filling out an online registration form for a product I bought and when it asked for my address I used "The Villages" and the 32162 zip. The program returned an error message that the address and zip were not a match. So, I changed the city to Lady Lake with the same zip and it gave me the same error message. I was about to try "Wildwood" thinking that it was the Sumter county address with a Lake county zip that was the problem, but decided to retry the original entries again. And, it went through! Go figure.

My brother bought a house up by Orange Blossom GC and uses Lady Lake, Zip 32159. I have a house in Ashland near the Palmer course and use
The Villages, Zip 32162. We both get our mail without any problems. When I am gone from TV and want my mail forwarded, I use my street address and The Villages, 32162. Never had an issue.

Again, use the zip code and The Villages as shown on the USPS web site. That is the only site that matters because that is where you get your mail from. Any other business does not deliver your mail or forward your mail.

For a number of years 32159 was the Zip code for all of TV. A couple of years after we moved here, they changed the zip code for portions of TV to 32162 and that is now the predominant code here.
