Smile Adopt-a-Family

This is an article that appeared in another local newspaper. It's about the Amigos Sports Club and Pelican Club Adopt-a-Family program. If you are thinking about making a donation this holiday season to a local charity this is a great one. Info is at the bottom of the page about how to donate.

The Amigos Sports Club and The Pelican Social Club have begun to collect donations for local underprivileged children.
“Our mission is to make the holiday season brighter for children in need. Our goal this year is to collect $20,000 to purchase toys, food and clothing for 150 children,” said Mary Anne Wilson, co-chair of Adopt-a-Family.
Club members are working with School Guidance Counselors from Wildwood Elementary, Fruitland Park Elementary, and The Villages Elementary on Rolling Acres Road to identify those children who have the greatest need.
“Each child is given $130 worth of gifts from their ‘wish list’. In addition to toys and clothing, each family receives 7 days worth of food and a ham dinner,” said Anita Monroe, co-chair of Adopt a Family.
Jim Wilson of Adopt-A-Family said last year’s event was very successful.
“We collected over $20,000 in donations and were able to help 145 children and their families. Because of your generosity, last year we also donated 161 pairs of PJ’s to the Girl Scout PJ fund, $300 to SOZO (children of the Forest), and purchased an adaptive bike for a child with a Special Need. We purchase special equipment for children as the need arises,” Wilson said.
The clubs are reaching out to Villagers for their help.
If you would like to send a donation, please make checks payable to “Amigos Sports Club” with “Adopt-a Family” written in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to Jim Wilson, 411 Rhapsody Path, The Villages, FL 32162.
“With your help, we will surely get the job done,” Wilson added.

Adopt a family...

Most of our churches are doing it too. Even my golf group is doing it. This is a very charitable place.
