Did you think Aldi company was going to keep some Winn Dixies as is with the WD brands? I was under the impression, SE Grocer would be a thing of the past and all the store fronts with the Winn Dixie name were going away.

The Aldi plan from the start was to convert WD and Harvey stores that fit their expansion plans into Aldi stores, with the remaining 170-180 WD & Harvey’s stores to remain under those names - with Aldi running them. However, running stores of the WD & Harvey type is really outside the Aldi “color-wheel.” So in a smart move they sell those unwanted stores back to Southeastern Grocers to run. Hopefully not all those locations are “low hanging fruit” and Southeastern Grocers doesn’t go back into bankruptcy. Time will tell.

The news releases at the time of the sale informed us that *some* of the Winn Dixie stores would be converted to Aldi's and the rest would remain Winn Dixie.

I don't recall anything being mentioned about the Winn Dixie brand products and I was interested to see what might happen.

Default Kroger!

I see Kroger delivery trucks in my Village every day of the week. I am sure they are all over TV making deliveries. How about a Kroger where the WinnDixie is in Pinellas Plaza? Or in the spot in Middleton that we will for a grocery store?

It's not up to us. Kroger is the one that decides where and how they want to expand. Contact them and tell them you would like to see them here.

Looks like the plan was in the works, keep the stores that Aldi had no footprint.

Sell what wasn’t in their business plan, making a tidy profit.

So stores not of interest to Aldi, sold to whoever won the bid, giving new ownership the right to change name to whatever they please.

While it would benefit greatly for Kroger to step into the market, why would they. Our driver says 10 plus hours a day multiple full trucks 7 days a week in TV

If they wanted to be in this area with a brick and mortar store think they would have done it by now. Wonder if their delivery system is profitable?

We have been using Kroger delivery up north, for 5 years, and in TV 3 years. If it’s not profitable Kroger would have dumped it. If I am traveling south to north in TV I have counted no less than 10 trucks and that only on BV or Morse

They might have given it some amount of time to make money.

Personally we go food shopping with a list and what we buy often does not look like the list. So this is not for us.

Kroger probably doesn't want to go head to head with Publix. Just my guess.

Publix has 1439 stores Number of Publix locations in the USA in 2025 | ScrapeHero and Krogers has 4,150 stores (however some go under the name Ralph’s and Harris Teeter). Also, Krogers has an active home delivery distribution operation.

It would be no contest in terms of revenue and distribution logistics.

Kroger has no intention of opening stores in Florida. Ocado group based out of the UK is using the Kroger name for recognition. "The expansion to South Florida, including Miami represents an extension of a collaboration between Kroger and Ocado Group, a world leader in technology for grocery e-commerce. In 2018, the companies announced a collaboration to establish a delivery network that combines artificial intelligence, advanced robotics and automation in a bold new way, bringing first-of-its-kind technology to America."

That would be a reason to try either Kroger or Walmart+ delivery. Probably cut your grocery bill by half. We aren’t impulse buyers. Rarely buy processed food, so can be in and out of a grocery in less than 20 minutes, faster if you can scan and go
