Default Alternative to Living Room Blinds?

Anyone have any good ideas about alternatives to the large vinyl blinds installed over slidiing glass doors ? We have a designer with the original vertical blinds installed by the builder. They are bulky, hard to open/close but the sliding glass doors are so large I wonder if anyone has any good ideas for an alternative for nighttime privacy. We keep them open about 80% of the time b/c we have a a water view but want to close up at night for some privacy. Any ideas/Suggestions?

We have a similar home and a similar setting. We did not like the vertical blinds either. We simply use drapes on our sliding door. They are easy to install and match to decor. They can be pulled open or closed at will.

We have simple drapes on a traverse rod in our Camellia greatroom. It feels pretty and cozy at night and open and airy in the daytime.

I too, have the drapes. They are extra wide to allow for stack back when open and not covering any part of the window.

Something else I have looked at are vertical cellular blinds. They fold back to just inches when open, but offer privacy when closed.

I don't like to cover any part of the window with fabric or blinds when either is open.

The first home we rented in TV had Horizon Averte Natural Fold blinds. They were Ribcord Light Walnut and just beautiful! http://horizonshades.com/naturalshades/averte.html

Default ODL Products??

Have you ever heard of ODL Add-On Treatments? I don't know much about this product. We saw it at Lowe's in TV and were very intrigued. I've looked it up online. It is restrictive in what it can be used for. But honestly, I wish I had thought of the idea. It might be something you can use. Look around their website.

Default Vertiglide

Here's an option we have on our two sliders. We have a triple slider and the shade, when completely open, only takes up about 2-3 inches. Be warned though, they are quite expensive.
