Default Always Fun in The Villages

I was out for the afternoon cart ride with the dog and we stopped by the pond next to the first green on Glenview’s Tally Ho course. I heard some yelling and someone from Glenview was telling two guys they could not fish the pond. The discussion became quite heated! One of the guys fishing threw down his pole and started going after the Glenview person. The fishermen’s buddy tried to stop him, and they got into a fight! The two guys got into their cart and drove across the grass onto the MMP without looking for oncoming traffic. They drove north for a few feet and the guy who was trying to fight said something like he wasn’t going to be told he couldn’t fish there and turned the cart around. Again I guess his buddy made him leave because they turned around again and headed north up the MMP.

A couple of observations and thoughts. I have seen people fishing this pond quite often. Also, if the pond is off limits to fishing, why doesn’t Glenview put up a couple of “No Fishing” signs?

Another interesting day in The Villages.

From Recreation & Parks Fishing Guidelines:

2. Fishermen may fish in any lake, canal or stream, whether natural or man-made, which can be reached without crossing over or trespassing upon any privately owned property or golf courses.

and

FISHABLE POND
Location: Entrance of Glenview Country Club
Where can you fish: Along road (South) side of ponds
Two ponds on golf course cannot be fished

It looks like the Glenview person was correct. The pond next to the green on the north side of the entrance is one of the two ponds that cannot be fished due to being on the golf course.

It is easy to understand why this could be confusing. While "I've done it before and I've seen others doing it" doesn't change the rules, I hope the Glenview person at least tried to appreciate the possibility of a misunderstanding and approached the individual politely.

There are a lot of crazies out there in our fine world, to PO someone for fishing in a pond isn't worth getting stabbed or shot over. Let them go, they most likely would not have come back. There are so many great fishing lakes very near to TV why someone would want to fish in these little retention ponds is beyond me, it's like fishing in a barrel.

In the "questionable" areas, a "No Fishing" sign sure seems like a simple fix.

Do you really think a “No Fishing” sign will stop them? Not a chance. An OUT OF ORDER —DO NOT USE sign on an executive golf course restroom was ignored by numerous golfers. They went in, did their business and left. The Ambassadors are responsible for monitoring the restrooms so I had to “manually” flush the toilet several times during my shift. People can read. They just don’t care. Someone else will take care of it.

Because signs don’t need to be posted. Just fish in allowed ponds.

Ok - I guess I am old. Spent years in big business - lots of acronyms - but they have an online glossary I can go to —- I figured out what TV is - easy - and finally, figured out what OP is —- but what the heck is MMP and PO?

Villages News May 2016

A 19-year-old was jailed after he was caught fishing at a pond at a golf course in The Villages.

Brett Wayne Hill of Leesburg was arrested Thursday night after he was caught fishing at a lake at the Sarasota Golf Course, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Hill had previously been trespassed from all lakes in The Villages. Hill told the deputy he knew he had been forbidden to fish at lakes in The Villages, but decided to do it anyway.

He was arrested on a charge of trespassing and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.
I played Sarasota yesterday (3/28/21) and there were 3 guys fishing by the first and second holes. Two of them had little kids with them.

He probably didnt approach him very nicely and besides, is the world ending because someone is fishing in a no fishing area? Its not where someone launched a boat and brought 15 friends. Find something more important to poke your nose into

A couple weeks ago I was on my way over the bridge on lake Sumpter, and I thought I was seeing things, but there was a motorized pontoon on the lake with what looked like about 4 guys in it, and they were fishing. I saw poles in their hands. Only time I’ve ever seen that.I thought that was not allowed...

Having to take an emergency dump while out on a golf course, is not quite the same as picking a fishing hole....

John, quick question. You allowed have great knowledge and advice. I’m a runner, golfer, and, athlete. I was wondering if I could run on golf courses at end of day when NO golfers were playing any longer or present. Thanks
