Default Amazed Again

I have returned to TV after my 4 months in NY. Once again I am taken aback by the friendliness of this place. I have encountered nothing but smiles since I got here.

Nice to be back in the land of happiness.

Welcome back!

And it's because we're all just chuffed thinking about how we don't have to shovel snow in a few months.

TOTV, IMO, does not accurately reflect the attitudes I run into in person in The Villages.

Do you feel better now?
Who is this “us” that you are speaking for?
Any other states on your list?

No. The lady on my street who does all the coordinating of activities and chauffeurs anyone needing a ride to the events as well, and runs an activity program and has a happy husband, is almost 80 - is from Brooklyn - last time I checked it was part of New York.

So, if you know some entitled New Yorkers, I know different.

Far be it for me...a Bostonian by birth, to defend our bitter rivals to the south (NY). But in this case....do you run into Villagers regularly, donning their home state hoodies like John Belushi wearing a ‘college’ sweatshirt in Animal House?
Are you some sort of modern day Helen Keller....and can pick everyone out of a lineup? The ‘entitlement/arrogant’ behavior you speak of knows no boundaries, doesn’t discriminate by zip/area code. Ignorance...on the other hand, is alive and well on this forum!

Of course the calmest heads prevail - like those of us who can hold our heads high right between New York and Boston. WE are the chosen ones, from Connecticut. NY and Boston surround us because they can't BE us. Haters.

I thought that was the Snowbirds? Now I'm confused.

We've missed you while you were back in that horrid place.

Welcome Back, but you don't know what it was like while you were gone.

Also from NYC. This is a beautiful place to live and NYers are just a bit more blunt, IMHO.

Actually, I never said I was from NYC. I said I was in NY. NYC is a part of NY. NYC is not the entirety of NY.

I live in the Finger Lakes in the summer. People are very friendly there, generally speaking. Not as overtly friendly as here, IMO.

Also, I drove down from my NY home this year, with stops in Rockville, MD, Charlotte, NC, and St. Simons Island in GA. I tend to smile and say "good morning" to strangers. On most occasions along the way, when I did that, I got blank stares of surprise in return.

When I got to TV I got smiles and greetings in return. It was quite a noticeable change after the trip.

He was just saying how friendly we are. Read that post again and ponder it.

I was just relishing the kindness it spoke of.

I am pretty sure that you could have gone all day and not typed what you just typed.

I sometimes say "good morning" or "hello" when I stop at rest areas for a snack or bathroom break from driving. I almost always get a smile in return, if not a whole "good morning" or "hello" back. Once in awhile I get a "have a blessed day." While I'm not religious, I appreciate their thoughtfulness in saying it to me and it always makes me smile.
