We arrived yesterday from the Finger Lakes region as well. It is great to be back!

Entitled and arrogant?

More like forthright and opinionated, but there's nothing wrong with that. My wife and I often play in foursomes that at times include Noo Yawkers and it is always fun interacting with them.

So, if you know some entitled New Yorkers, I know different.
There’s New York and then there New York City, different IMO between night and day.

My cousins are from the FingerLake district and my nephew lives in Hoboken - not quite NYC but close. I don’t visit NYC itself too often as I already live in a megalopolis up north. But I meet the NY city folk at Maribeau spa in Skaneatelles (Finger Lake District). They seem ok to me. May be the Spa relaxes them?

Absolutely OBB. To further qualify your point. You can’t go from Santarpios in East Boston to Johns of Bleeker in Greenwich Village without stopping at Sally’s Apizza in New Haven!

I live in the Finger Lakes in the summer. People are very friendly there, generally speaking. Not as overtly friendly as here, IMO.

Also, I drove down from my NY home this year, with stops in Rockville, MD, Charlotte, NC, and St. Simons Island in GA. I tend to smile and say "good morning" to strangers. On most occasions along the way, when I did that, I got blank stares of surprise in return.

When I got to TV I got smiles and greetings in return. It was quite a noticeable change after the trip.
Funny, I'm right next to Rockville, MD, and I've adopted the "Villages Wave/Good Morning" when up here...

Most people, while sometimes surprised, return the greeting...

Are you sure they're not saying "Bless your heart"? That has an entirely different meaning...

Default A nice post ruined

QUOTE ]I have returned to TV after my 4 months in NY. Once again I am taken aback by the friendliness of this place. I have encountered nothing but smiles since I got here.

Nice to be back in the land of happiness.QUOTE

Well, welcome back. I share your sentiments about how nice people are here. We love it here.
Too bad a few knuckleheads on this thread can’t help themselves.

Well, I must admit, I was dealing with a very small sample.

Took a bus trip to the Finger lakes when I was back in PA. Such a beautiful area!
