Dad's SS check was reduced over 25% this year. Told his hospitalization increase was the reason. At 89 he should get free insurance, like the people that don't work. 25% reduction!!!

Think inflation is bad keep watching the price of diesel fuel. Every time that goes up so does everything we need/buy. Guess who makes the largest profit on a gallon of diesel?

I am not sure how his SS check could have been reduced by 25%. The SS COLA increase was 5.9%. Medicare Part B went up by about $22 per month. Medicare Part A is hospitalization and has a cost of $0. Was his SS benefit about $90 per month? Did IIRMA kick in? I am curious, more details please.

Yep. It is a double-edged sword. Prices are increasing on just about everything, just about everywhere. And portfolios are shrinking.

A lot of relief though can be found through wise buying and altering our habits. Restaurant prices are following the general trend. But Villagers spent over 200 million dollars last year eating out rather than cooking at home. I'm luckier than many: my wife is an excellent cook and loves doing it, and being from SE Asia she knows how to get the most bang for her buck on ingredients. Other things--take the golf cart rather than the Family Truckster, or walk rather than use the golf cart.

sounds like you are very happy , but for me it’s takeout or restaurant , I haven’t turned a stove on since I got my first coffee machine and even when I did use the stove it was only to boil water for instant coffee , I don’t even like to go to other peoples houses for dinner , a romantic dinner for me is in a restaurant. FYI Harvest was filled last night , dining there is always very good and sometimes great , I love everything about it , great villages place to enjoy

Assuming 90,000 average number of residents to account for seasonal people, $200 million breaks down to $42.74 per week or $6.11 per day. I'm sure there is a small group of folks like yourself who never eat out, but the $200 million figure is really not overly impressive when you compare it to everyday grocery prices.
