Wouldnt you feel safer if your city newspaper reported crimes? You would know which areas to avoid or to be careful. And you would know what time most of the crimes happen and to be cautious. You can also be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity. Seems a disfavor to residents not to report crime. Lots of covering-up in "Florida's Friendliest Hometown"!

But we need to remind ourselves that what we know so far, at least insofar as I know (maybe there are other, less partisan sources) comes from an online newspaper that is notorious for wasting no opportunity to cast The Villages in general, and Villagers in particular, in as bad a light as it can. They have a stake in controversy, and history has shown that they'll promote this controversy as hard and as often as they can.

There is a reason that criminal cases aren't tried in the Court of Public Opinion. Had this one been, it seems obvious that Mr. Moore would have paid the ultimate price mere hours after the story hit the aforementioned online newspaper. But we're not vigilantes, after all.
Ok sure.
I still feel for her. Her husband is punched right in front of her. It must have been hard on her.
Let’s don’t forget a man’s life is gone and a family is grieving the loss of him.
I just hope she is a good witness when the time comes.

Prayers to his family.
Seems a lot of people seem to have forgot he has love ones.

There are more good people than there are bad, in my opinion. But no one should be astonished to learn that the bad exist.
Unwed mothers are not the same as criminals, violent people, drunks, drug addicts, etc, in my humble opinion. Geez. You forgot the deadbeat dads!

Yep, got to avoid that area where I go to get my mail…..a number of shady characters letting their dogs $&*# on the grass.
And yet the Daily Sun doesn’t report this…..I have to rely on the TOTV, copywriters.

Like your sense of humor but not what I meant. For instance, Lady Lake Police requested shutting down alcohol sales at midnight. This was to curtail crime. Is most crime after midnight? is it just Lady Lake? Would be good to know these things. Some of the crime mentioned was theft of items in cars/carts. Is your neighborhood safe? Again, would be good information to have. If city police have a concern, mine isn't that silly.

Our local weekly papers (we had two in our community) had a Police Blotter page, that gave just a basic summary of arrests and tickets issued the week before. One was something like:

Parking violations: 23
Moving vehicle violations: 9
Domestic Dispute charges: 2
Burglary arrests: 1
Non-Domestic Assault: 1
Shoplifting: 2

The other looked more like:

Week of June 27:
James Doe, Sam Doe, Johnny Fugese, Mark Centrino, all of Clintonville Avenue, were arrested on charges of breach of peace and disorderly conduct. Mr. Doe received an additional charge of harassment.
Cindy and Joe Smith, of Arlene Court, were charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor assault in a domestic dispute.
Two minor children were each charged with shoplifting at Stop & Shop.
Sally Jones, of Newport Rhode Island, was charged with evading and travelling in the wrong lane.

A general count and general categorization of arrests and tickets issued would be pretty useful, I think. It would either a) remind people that this really is a pretty safe community, comparatively or b) warn people who insist that crime never happens here, that yes - it does, and while you can trust in the Lord you should still tie up your camel.

Reading the police blotter in the local paper before leaving the house is a sign of paranoia.

One family destroyed. I have no sympathy for the family of the maniacal drunk that did this (even if he had one, he more than likely lived alone). He needs to be taught a life long lesson.

You say paranoia. Others say preventative measures. I guess it depends on if you are frail, a single woman, disabled etc. or a big, healthy, retired military man. Some people would benefit from the information more than others.

Spotcrime.com offers an app that shows crimes in your neighborhood.

If they are as you've stated illegal immigrants. Haven't 100% of them already committed a crime? I doubt that the percentage of American born citizens who have committed a crime are more than a few percent.

There's a lot out there that goes counter to what people "believe" - like how you're more likely to die of a gunshot wound in Ohio (16.5 killed per 100,000) than New York City (5.5 per 100,000). Oh - and the Ohio number is ONLY gun murders - the New York City numbers are ALL murders (i.e. including stabbings, beatings, etc).
There is some disputing of that "fact"...

What the media tell you about illegal-immigrant crime is plain wrong
