Then, why are businesses spending money on surveys, feedback blogs, etc. to solicit customer opinions about their service? Personally, I have sent emails to Publix with comments on their policies. In each case, I have received a personal, detailed reply from Publix. It seems like almost every time I visit a medical facility, I get an email asking me to complete a customer satisfaction survey. And, Amazon is always asking me to rate their products and service.

good luck to us!
Publix is employee owned.

"I can honestly say I have no idea how my friends feel about how Publix does their checkouts and little number things. Is that something people discuss with each other?

They can’t when they want to line jump.

dan, although technically true,
20% is owned by the Jenkins family, and the other 80% is owned by employees.

Looking at just the CEO sale of shares form, the CEO directly owns 73MILLION shares and indirectly owns 300Million shares. .

i am assuming he will vote for whatever he decides the best method of earnings and bonus improvement decisions are being made. The proportion of mgmt owned shares acting for a higher growth and earnings and bonus payment surely doesn't matter that the company is privately held, or privately held with employee participation. . . i would even venture to type that this set up is more self enriching than working for public share holders, as there are no outsiders voting in corporate affairs.

So here's what to fight about:

11 items, because "it's just one more, no one will care."
12 items, same reason, but the 12th item is mismarked and they have to stop everything while another employee goes to the grocery aisle to check the tag.
40 items, but 30 of them are for the same thing - different flavors.
40 items, but 30 of them are for the same thing - same flavor, but the manager says cashiers have to ring each item individually.
25 items, because the express line was empty and the cashier said to c'mon over - and immediately after she starts ringing out the customer, 4 more people get into the express line with only 1-6 items each.
All of these issues can be resolved and prevented in the future with a little enforcement by Publix. "Sir/ma'am, you have more than 10 items, please move to another lane". Publix will create policies, but they refuse to do any enforcement. Also, note that the express lane is attended by only one person, with no one to bag the groceries.

enforcement of rules against many customers is laughable because no company wants to irritate their customers for minor infractions, ie being a corporate Karen. .

We had a real estate contract broken, outside of the terms of the agreement, and the real estate company, not the r/e rep, refused to honor those terms and conditions by not allowing the seller(us) to keep the earnest small downpayment. They would only release the funds to us if we agreed to a 50/50 split. .

clearly, a company who doesn't want to penalize a future potential customer to the fullest extent of the legal agreement. and they know that hiring an attorney is more expensive than the amount they are withholding.

did we know this fact about the legal side of the company prior? no. . .

Everything you have in your cart was already touched by some stranger in the back room and the stacker, good chance a baby with a dirty diaper was in the cart seat, and a toddler with dirty shoes was in the cart. So, it may be faster but it sure ain't cleaner.

I am a customer, and I get irritated when a company doesn't enforce their policies.

It seems they are putting more of a load on the Publix floor manager. He or she can move people into or out of lines more easily now. Most of the Publix floor managers I have encountered are very quick on their feet and can be very tactful.

so do i, but do you complain to the mgmt, or ask them about how they "actually" manage the expressholes?

I had to complain the other day because the hot dogs which were on sale, or BOGO, were at least a month or more out of date. . that is worse than not policing the express lane for the entitled customers. .
