Well that makes sense, but we're still blaming Lary.
Uh oh Spaghetti-Os indeed!

It sounded like the trucks had gone down Odell Circle...more than one for sure. I heard two sets of sirens actually and there was a time expanse between them. Some were just around 5 and then later. Never heard helicoptors. At any rate hope all's well!!! All day today, there seemed to be alot of sirens happening. More folks...more accidents????

Wow, all this talk of such yummy sounding dinners! Pray tell, how does one make a "Dorito Pie". It sounds good. Can you share the recipe?
Thanks, Trish

Default No mention in The Daily Fun

I looked over the paper this morning and couldn't find any article about the power outage last night or anything about an accident or incident last night and it did shut down the Octoberfest celebration at Lake Sumter Landing. I have a feeling that since it happened at suppertime it won't show up, IF it shows up at all until tomorrow.

I sometimes think that the reporters on The Daily Sun are nine to five.

Default outage

If the outage affected 4,000 homes for 40 minutes, the likely cause was equipment failure at a substation.

It's a good thing that Bill will supply popcorn for situations like this.

I hope no one was hurt in this situation.

I find myself wondering why TOTV-ers are still asking, "What happened?"

Certainly an unusual event!

Just before heading out to the Central States Club event at the Canal Street Rec Center, I noticed a very, very small aberration in the lights in my kitchen. Then, when I arrived at the Odell Circle / Canal Street intersection, where the lights were out, I wondered what was happening?

At Canal Street, our entertainment was setting up, but the only lights were the emergency ones. After a little while, we moved out to the picnic pavillions hoping to have our party, no matter what!

Before too long, we went back into the Center, with everything reading that all was safe.

Bottom line: we had a very enjoyable evening, many of us wondering about but not being too concerned about the small aberration!

During more than six and a half years here, this event seems to be the longest "blackout yet!"

I wondered Steve because so many emergency vehicles headed down Morse close to the same time the power went out. Two fire engines, an ambulance, then a Sheriff's car heading back going about the speed of light (well not really, but lights on and siren screaming), went down Morse behind my house. I was afraid that someone had been hurt.

In the 5 years we've been here, this is indeed the longest outage we've experienced, too. Oh the power has been out for a few minutes a couple of times, but it was always back quickly.

Glad you had your party...

Tried to see if there was any info on WVLG last night but all we heard was the usual entertainment offerings. Today, nothing in the Daily Sun. As a minimum, I would expect the utilities and/or the appropriate authorities to get the word out to the news outlets. The radio station should have been the first source of information for TV.

An article in today's Daily Sun, 10/29 section C, says that a failure of an underground power line splice caused the power failure. There was an explosion which blew off a manhole cover. This was near the intersection of Gayle Mill Drive and Odell Circle, Village of Mallory, about 4:30pm on Thursday.

Also, on the RadioReference web site they list a trauma situation requiring an air medivac around 4:45pm Thursday. This type of response would have required 2 fire engines and at least an ambulance.

So my best educated guess is what folks saw was actually emergency services responding to both emergencies that happened within minutes of each other.

i saw an accident on Morse at the roundabout for Stillwater Trail on Friday. A car and a Habitat for Humanity truck had collided. Lots of emergency vehicles there.

I THINK that the lights are flickering a bit today. I am sewing and I hate to sew and maybe it is an unconcious wish that the electricity would go out.

Default Was it the fire in Tamarind Grove

There was a SECO truck that pulled off the road onto the grass near the cart path on Morse, near the golf course. I saw two SECO people get back into their truck and head back on Morse in the direction of 466. Another SECO truck went in that direction just before they did. This all happened around 5:10 or so, a few minutes before or after. Power was out for about 40 minutes. I felt badly for businesses in town, they were without power for a while.
My hubby was playng golf at Sandhill and said theat there was a large cloud of very black smoke coming from Tamarind Grove and that is where all the emergency vehicles seemed to go.
