Default Astroturf anyone?

I wonder if The Villages would allow AstroTurf. I understand the product has really improved. It is a form of artificial grass. I have been told it looks great, requires no weeding, fertilizer, or watering. Several companies offer artificial grass, but I wonder how they would hold up to the hot Florida sun. Perhaps just the front yard could be artificial grass, keep some real grass out back. Seems like it would be a wonderful way to conserve water. I am only guessing but imagine it is very expensive to purchase and install. Does anyone know if any artificial lawns exist in the villages? Just wondering!

Hi Plex, like your idea of conserving water, etc., but better look into it real good. My company put artificial grass in the front of our main building, and it looked awful. Very phony and embarrassing for us employees. A few of us were going to strategically place some fake dog turds (Oh, there we go again) and artificial flowers to make the ridiculous seem somewhat funny. We never did, obviously, cause we would have been terminated, I'm sure.

Anyway, look into it, its not real pretty. Keep us posted on your progress, thanks.

I've read recently of some new type.. FieldTurf or something like that, that is supposed to look very real and was going to be installed on some football fields. I think this is a great idea for a small "lawn", but would want to know more.

There is a new product out that I was interested in that you might want to check out. Seems that "New Grass" looks and feels like real grass. I contacted them at tbrooks@newgrass.com. They need a vendor in Florida to install this grass and told me to find a local landscaper who would be willing to carry their product and install it. Not knowing whether it would be sanctioned by The Villages, I didn't pursue it any further. It's a VERY interesting product and would love to get rid of the lawn bills. New Grass has a 10 year warranty but a longer life expectancy.

If anyone checks this out and goes the next step of finding out if we can have this product installed and can find someone to do it, let us know.

I've seen it used in back yards of the courtyard villas. Used part of Putting greens. Looked very nice.

Imo1

Are you referring to astroturf in the courtyard villas or the New Grass?

It looks great in front of Steve Wynn's new casino (Wynn's) on the Vegas Strip. I'm sure it would be cost prohibitive.
