Question Attic ventilation was discussed several weeks ago

There was a discussion several weeks ago about attic ventilation and how to keep the living area cool and comfortable. Help me through this.....I keep about a foot opening in my garage, leaving the garage door slightly open. I have a pull down attic ladder and I leave the attic door slightly opened. The thought being that the heat in the attic will draw outside air into and through the garage and vent up into the attic. I'm not so certain after reading the previous posts that this is the most efficatic thing to do. What say you O' engineers of heating and cooling.

OP is your end goal to have a cooler garage, attic or decrease your cooling costs? Each of those have a separate answer with some common ground.

I wouldn't call myself an engineer, but I pretty much agree with you. The heat rises and should cool down your garage and to some extent your attic area. For $100 (back in 2012), I had Solar Guys install a ventilation fan in the garage ceiling and a couple of vents in the garage door. The fan uses little electricity and the garage stays pretty cool in my opinion, relatively speaking. So I'm doing what you suggested except I have the garage door vents instead of leaving my door up a foot, and the ventilation fan running instead of the attic stairs open.
