Default Automotive traffic only

Has anyone noticed the text printed on some of the newer installed gates? On the few gates surrounding Sabal Chase I've noticed the words "Automotive traffic only". I doubt this is limited to this village and may be on gates at some others. I wonder about the legality of such notices, as the implications are that bicycles, pedestrians, etc. are not permitted. In the case of bicycles, if the sign was followed literally, you could get out of the village but it would be difficult, if not impossible, to get back in.

I think what this means is that automotive traffic only is meant to go in through the gates and golf carts, pedestrians, bikes, and Segways should use the multi-modal trails bypassing the gates.

Aren't there trails that bypass the gates in Sabal Chase?

Default Cars and carts

Maybe they put it that way is because it may sometimes be confusing when one looks at the sign quickly "carts only" or "no cars please" it could be interpreted for " cars only" or "no carts please". These words can have a devastating outcome if read wrong. When spelling out automotive there is no confusion. Just a thought.

I'll provide an example that better illustrates the issue:

If one heads down the Bonita Blvd hill (westbound from Morse to Canal St) on the cart path, then makes the right (northbound) on Canal, one is immediately faced with the mentioned sign on the gate. The cart path resumes immediately after the gate, but you can't get to the path unless you go through the gate.

I've seen that text elsewhere in TV on some gate arms, although I can't recall specifically where.

There are similar signs for Santiago and Alhambra villages, also. These specifically restrict pedestrians from walking in but nothing saying you can't walk out. If you happen to walk through the gate from the inside, obeying the signs means you will have to walk miles to get back in. We just ignore them.

Most do the same if needed.

The only signs carrying any legal weight or penalty are those placed by Sumter County.
