I don't care if you carry a Bazooka around. Your carrying it makes you happy. This place being safe makes me happy.

I'm sure this person thought she was very safe too. Head in sand.

I am 76 years old. I have lived in three states and 12 different neighborhoods in my life. They were all relatively safe. We tried very hard to work and save so we could live in relatively safe neighborhoods. This is one of them. For a place this size, crime is very low. My history may not be your history. No need to call names.

YOU said head in sand. I say I am a positive person with a realistic attitude. Drugs bring danger to a lot of doors, anywhere you live. Most people who live here are law abiding. That is not to say that burglaries never happen here. There is usually a rash when the snowbirds return and every year our local LEO's have been on top of the situation. I can only think of one in recent years where the people were home...and they didn't wake up. Most people have security systems and lots of cameras everywhere. A wise move and a deterrent to crime. But break in's still could still happen, but not as likely as many places in the U.S. The newspaper said battery. That crime is usually someone who is mad at you. Someone who knows you. A personal thing.

It pains me to say that we were just down the street... scooting around in the golf cart, that very day....sun shining...looking at the new lots available in Labelle.... Horrible feeling that it was all happening when I was right down the street. Hopefully the woman was just robbed and not something worse. |

????
The point is: the dog may have saved her. What's wrong with you? |

I thought a typical home invasion would involve a show of force, and quick in and out. Taking time to beat a dog seems more personal and vindictive than a burglary, and meant to cause the homeowner distress. Of course it's senseless to speculate about this awful situation.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, to find out it was a neighbor who had enough of a neighbors dog. |

Because I am a dog owner (rescue "Mutt") and see all the posts from those who dislike dogs (poop, barking, visiting the squares, etc.). Dogs are loyal companions and virtually all are friendly. They also can alert you and your neighbors to the presence of strangers. In this case the poor pup distracted or irritated the intruder possibly saving the victim from personal harm. Hopefully the invader receives significant punishment, not "probation".
Again, Good thing she had a dog. Everyone should have one. |

Please read this web site:
U.S. Dog Bite Statistics - DogsBite.org Please accept the fact that some of us have had very bad experiences with dogs and do not like dogs. |

Not a peep yet from the online news. I hope if someone did harm a dog that they will be arrested for animal cruelty.
