Default Bank Recommendation Please

I plan to open a new checking/savings account soon. I've been with my employer's credit union for so long that I don't know much about other banks. I'm looking for one that would naturally keep fees low, etc., etc..

A couple of things I have a particular interest in is a Bill Pay service of some sort, and also one that has the capability to download transactions to Quicken money management software.

Any advice?

We like community bank and trust of Florida on 466. Small town bank great customer service. . Also has a branch on 441 near McDonald's and a new one opening up near brownwood. Main office is in Ocala.

Another consideration is to maintain your current credit union account if you're happy with it. We bank through USAA in Texas and haven't had a local bank in probably 20 years.

Pay bills by mail, make deposits by phone/online/mail, get cash back from store purchases when cash is needed. We don't write more than a few checks a year, but don't need a local checking account to do that.

That's still a possibility. We do like our credit union. Only some extra hoops we had to jump through to handle the money related to our recent house closing made us start thinking it might be nice to have a local bank. Still not positive though.

We continue to use our credit union (Navy Federal Credit Union) but also have established an account with Citizens First for the convenience of having a local bank. (And they do have good popcorn!)

Citizens First seems to be having some issues getting Quicken to download with web connect.

Although I am not a customer , I recently had the greatest experience setting up an AED program with Regions Bank. Regions have done over a hundred AED accounts at no charges to the residents. I stongly urge you pay a visit to the Regions bank facilities on Route 466 and meet Joe Mauk..

Was thinking of Citizens when we were up there buying. Opened a checking account and got our first book of checks - only 1 book.

Now, I don't use many checks, but I called and inquired as to obtaining more and was told there would be a charge.

SORRY - after depositing a decent amount of money to open the account I don't expect to be charged for checks. Actually I don't expect to be charged for much at all.

Have our account at B of A and everything is free.
Will keep some money in Citizens in case we have to access the ATM.

Though a big bank, wells fargo has worked ncely for us

1 gave us a better rate in our mortgage than citizens

2 they have a visa card that its reward is , they deduct 1% of your mortgage for every 25.00 you charge on their Visa So, let us say we spend 3,000/ month on charges, that is $30.00 off your mortgage We have racked up some rewards w that visa which we use for MOST EVERYTHING,

If you plan to do much traveling, I would suggest that you have an account with a nationwide bank like, Bank of America or Wells Fargo so you can make ATM withdrawals with no charge. There aren't many of their ATM's in The Villages, so it would probably behoove you to have an account with Citizens also. They have ATM's at most every mail station and at all the town squares. They all have Online Billpay, so that should not be a problem. We had Wells Fargo since before it was Wells Fargo and have not changed our main banking with them. We also have a small account with Citizens for the reasons mentioned above.

We keep our money under the mattress.

And leave our garage door up and the front door unlocked and don't have a gun.

We feel safe here.

(Well to be truthful, we bank at Citizens. We trust Gary Morse too.)
