Default Banking/ATM usage in TV

My wife and I will be spending the month of March in TV. What is the recommendation for cashing a check and/or using an ATM? I have never paid an ATM fee and never will. With that being said, if I need some cash, are there banks that will cash a check for me? I would be happy to open a small savings account to make check cashing easier. What do snowbirds do for banking needs in TV?

What bank do you have now? Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Chase all have branches in TV.

Open a Citizens First account. Not sure what the rules are if a savings account for ATM fees but a free checking account would take care of your fee issue. Otherwise, You are going to have to resign yourself to paying ATM fees or bringing a large amount of cash. If your banking institute is only local to your area, you’re going to have problems writing a check without paying a fee around here.

Most snowbirds have a Citizens account or their bank is one of the big national ones.

I don't remember the last time I "cashed a check." Use Credit cards for 99% of everything. If you actually need cash, bring some with you or just ask your bank where the debit card fees are the least. There are banks that have reciprocity and do not charge fees.

Worst case you pay a couple dollars, if you plan on living here one day open an account at citizens or suntrust. If you use an atm a lot open citizens, they are everywhere.

If you want to make an easy $500, open a chase checking and savings with direct deposit.

It's just one month. Vowing to never pay a fee is not a good reason to open an account For a one month visit.

Open a Schwab investor checking account. Comes with a debit/credit card and you can use it in any ATM any where in the world, at any bank and all fees are reimbursed.
I just use the ATM I find closest to me where ever I am and never pay a fee. Every transaction says there will be a fee, but 100% are paid by Schwab.

Why not use your debit card at the grocery store when you shop and hit the cash back button. Never a fee when you do it this way.

For one month, I would bring enough cash with me and what you don't use bring back home. I have Citizens First accounts, but I live here full time.

When in The Villages I use my Schwab card at the Citizens First ATMs (the bank owned/controlled by the developer) which are convenient and literally all over the place. With Schwab one never pays a fee at either domestic or foreign bank ATMs. I lost my Schwab card in Turkey (the country). I called them collect and they offered to overnight me another free of charge. Now THAT is SERVICE!

If you have a Debit Card, you can make a withdrawal of cash at the ATM's at Publix with no ATM Fee. I think that may be the case at all Publix locations in Florida. There are multiple Publix Supermarkets in The Villages.
