It is also illegal to drive my street legal GEM (a LSV) on 466 or any other road where the speed limit is higher than 35 mph. A mobility scooter...WOW!

I was paraphrasing and thank you for correcting me about the headphones instead of a cell phone. Who jumped to conclusions? I see no conclusions drawn. It was surprising and unexpected is all I read. Anyone would have been surprised and then after a little mulling it over, one would think of a dozen things that could have been done..but not much in that moment.

I still can draw no conclusions from this at all. I hope he is safely home.

About six months ago, I was waiting in my dentist's office next to 441 in Fruitland Park and I saw a man in a mobility chair across 441. I thought there was no way he would try to cross six lanes of traffic going 55, but he did. He crossed the northbound lanes into the median, then the southbound lanes. Yikes!!

I do not understand.Other post people where talking about cigar butts and the guy from Indiana with the license plate.People talked about confronting him for throwing it on the path. Here we have someone in danger on 466 and all of the onlookers and people driving by can do is describe what they have seen.Shame on you,for doing nothing.

My main concern about your post was that people that read this thread would think that he actually was nonchalantly talking on his phone which would diminish the thought that maybe he was disoriented. Skyguy's reply to your post is an example of what I am talking about. I cut and pasted what skyguy said below, right after you posted............

"Forget boy Howdy... boy Mr. Flubberdubber! I feel uneasy enough that a careless golf cart driver will approach me when I take my mobility scooter on the GC path from Hadley to Colony; but 466???

Gracie, if you ever see me driving my scooter past your village on 466, please call those nice young men in their clean white coats to come and take me away!!!!"

Your words carry a lot of weight on this site. Maybe I was the one who jumped to a conclusion.

Skyguy is a dear friend of ours and I think he was funning a bit with me. I guess the only thing anyone could have done is call 911. It would take a few seconds to think how to describe it. Let's all hope that someone who knows him can make him stop this dangerous practice.

It took a few inquiries for all of us readers to get the meaning of his post.
Most of us weren't sure of the conveyance. Most of us would have been equally surprised and you couldn't just STOP on 466 and approach him.

As the OP said...Beat this, will you? Which I take to mean, that this was totally unexpected to see.

Doug, I bet you were as astounded and perversely amused as was I. When I visualize it, my mind still bounces from concern to remembering the old Arte Johnson Laugh In routines on the tricycle.

JoeC, did you see me quote Gracie in my post? No you didn't because I was not replying to what she stated, as such your assumption that my post was prompted by Gracie's post or that I even had the phone issue on my mind is flat out wrong. She had no bearing or influence in what I stated in my first paragraph at all. That I followed her post was just coincidence!

Furthermore, I couldn't care less about the phone issue within the context of my post, and that post was strictly prompted by the fact that 466 (and I was only talking about 466 in that first paragraph) is a dangerous road for not only a power chair, but also mobility scooters, bicycles and even walkers.

Gracie, was I funning with you? Yes and no! I was fundamentally making a serious statement, and as you and others may or may not know, I sometimes try to make my statements, serious or not, in a positive manner rather than in a negative way; quasi-humorous if you will. Also, my second paragraph wasn't even thought of until I had finished the first paragraph.

The reason you were mentioned in that second paragraph was simply because you are a friend and I knew that you lived next to 466. If the same held true for JoeC, I could have just as easily used his name in place of yours. I can't help wondering though if it was his name instead of yours, would he have thought he influenced my post as he thought yours did? Guess we'll never know though, will we?

Please forgive me. When you started your post with how Gracie ended hers..

""Forget boy Howdy... boy Mr. Flubberdubber!" I may have assumed too much that's why I said that maybe I was the one who was jumping to conclusions.

Let's get off defending what we said or didn't say and get back on topic.

Yikes! I didn't even see the Boy Howdy on Gracies post. It must have been subliminally planted in my mind when I prepared my post!

Anyway, all's forgiven, but you will have to serve 8 hours of community service. Case dismissed!
