I buy gas all the time at this same station. Instead of using a credit or debit card, I buy the Shell Gift Cards at Publix and use that. If there is a skimmer on the pump, they get NOTHING.

We get the $50 cards at Publix when available for $40. Saves money and is safer also. You can choose, She'll, RaceTrack or Marathon! I also buy gas cards at WalMart and can use these at WM or SAMs Club.

You're right. The $50 cards at Publix are an added bonus when they are on sale and also make great gifts, especially for the teen grandkids in high school or college. I use them when we travel, as well.

We also use the Publix gas cards whenever they are offered.

I hope the card company calls and ask why we don't use it anymore.
By using our credit cards, we have saved $1,000 on air flights through the air miles we get by using the credit cards. We're going to spend the money anyway, so why not get great reductions on our flights over what those who pay cash had to pay for their flights. There are two or more sides to everything.

It cost me nothing except I had to change my credit card number and notify a ton of automatic bill payees and, of course, forgot about a few till later. I no longer use my credit cards at McDonald's.
For many years we have removed the 3 digit code on any new or replacement cards, credit and debit, once we have noted it in a secure place. No merchant should ever need the code if you are there in person with identification and card in hand. Another step is to put SEE I. D. where you would normally sign the card. Removing the code could prevent at least some of the on line uses if the number is compromised.

We only use our AMEX card. We have the alerts turned on, so when any purchase (over $10 as this is the lowest amount available) is made we automatically get a text message on the cell phone. It usually goes off within seconds of the card is swiped thru the machine. That way we know of a purchase immediately. Works pretty good for us.

I have a chip embedded Mastercard. Only Wal-Mart has the readers as far as I know. I use my CC for EVERYTHING. Sure, once in a while someone gets a hold of my number and the CC company changes my number and sets up all of my auto pay bills. The fraudulent charges are removed. Another poster said we should all use cash and go to the ATM. ATM's can be dangerous. For me, the risk outweighs the reward.

How so? We only use the ATM's at the bank. Always try to pay cash at restaurants, but sometimes the appetite exceeds the wallet and a credit card must be used. Then I keep a close watch on my CC account for a week or so.

Inconvenience? Yes....but you are not going to be out any money. The gas station will out the money. Tell your bank it was an unauthorized charge

That would have prevented the NYC McDonald's cashier from turning my card number and 3-digit code on the back over to her partners in crime. I never thought of that. But then I need to make sure that I remember it. At 81, that isn't an easy thing to do!
