STEPPED-UP PATROLS IN VILLAGES, BUT TWO NEW BURGLARIES REPORTED

FEBRUARY 26, 2015 BY STAFF REPORT 13 COMMENTS

Stepped-up patrols and an intensive investigation continue in The Villages in the wake of a string of burglaries.

Two new burglaries were reported Tuesday, these in the Village of Hadley and the Village of Pinellas. The Village of Hadley home was located on Saffron Lane and the Pinellas burglary took place on Yearling Way.

Thousands of dollars in jewelry and cash were taken in one of the burglaries. Burglars took silverware and jewelry in the other, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Between Feb. 11 and 17 burglars hit homes in Charlotte, Mallory Square, Bonnybrook, the Village of Harmeswood of Belle Aire and St. James. Another attempted break-in took place in the Village of Gilchrist.

In all of the break-ins, entry was made through the rear of the home.

The break-ins have been happening in broad daylight.

Catching a burger with one mouth seems pretty easy.

Seriously, I for one am impressed how quickly burglars are caught in TV. With the low crime rate, I find LEO to be quite competent.

A few burglaries amongst 57,000 homes, is very low. IMHO

I also feel sorry for those that have been victimized.

can hardly be used as an indictment on the Sheriff's Office. Gypsy (or travelers) burglaries, incidentally, are typically hard to solve, given their transient nature. I applaud the SCSO for their recent apprehension, as well as the alert citizen who provided assistance. Additionally, I find our local law enforcement to be outstanding.
