I forgot to mention about a month ago I happened on another snake in the back yard; This one was brown in color less then a foot long, it just wandered off toward my neighbors house.
Snakes are part of nature and do not like to have encounters with their worst enemy (People) .

As for the current snakes no one should be afraid of them they are just trying to survive and for the most part are harmless . They are more afraid of you then you are of them ( their life depends on escaping from you.)

Oh ! we are in the Belle Aire area Super nice people and a quiet friendly neighborhood. Love it here !

With bugs, snakes and gators, one of the first items purchased for our CYV was this horizontal slider for $850 installed. Also it can be a deterrent for wondering strangers. Unlike the electric vertical sliders, when I'm working outside it's very easy to open and close as you go in and out since each 4' section slides separately. The electric types you'll most likely leave up while cutting the grass, washing the car, etc, which would provide no protection. Plus the fact these are half the price and there's no motor or moving parts to break.

My better half is defintely going to read this entire thread because she has a very bad habit of leaving the garage door/screen up and walk away. I try to keep an eye on this but I'm only human. We have been here for over 6 years and finally i found a snake in my garage...thought that would cure her it did not. I finally told her that if a snake visits our house because of her she can remove it.

OK, boys n girls, it is most likely a Black Racer. These snakes are VERY good and do their best to rid the area of rodents. They're called "racers" because of how fast they move. They generally grow no longer than 4 feet. My wife, while gardening, often "talked" with a regular visitor from the Black Racer family.

While living in New Mexico I came out of the house into the garage and stepped on a rattle snake that was snuggled up at the step down. Fortunately, for me not the snake,
I stepped on his neck so he could not turn and strike. Called the snake man and for $20 he came and emptied out my garage, found the critter and tried to nurse him back.
Unfortunately he died of a broken neck, but folks in the desert southwest honor and protect rattle snakes because they usually do more harm than good. There is room for
all of us on this earth so just move over and make room for our snake friends, who are not by the way slimy at all.
