You used some inflammatory language in your post such as "taking over the road" and "mostly appear to think they own the road". This sort of rhetoric is inconsistent with rational discussions and is widely viewed as trolling. Also, this sort of post shows up about every 2-3 weeks and usually degenerates quickly. The bottom line is bikes have the same rights to the roads as cars and nearly everyone violates the law almost every time they go out on the roads. Further rehashing of the same old, same old seems pointless. Have a nice day.

bu

I don't think anyone is attacking, just people expressing different opinions. You know, kinda like dog poop threads. Just many different points of view and nobody is going to change their mind.

I agree. When one wants another to listen to their point of view; one must choose their adjectives carefully.

Some observations: Be careful what you wish for. Visualize 10-20 bicycles, each one stopping at a stop sign or entry gate with the traffic backed up! Also, when a cyclist approaches an intersection, they are going all of 5 mph with unrestricted vision of approaching traffic, so they roll through a stop sign, think a 150 pound cyclist is going to challenge a 4000 pound auto? Have a nice fun, pleasant day.

Maybe its time the bikes self limit themselves to say 5 in a group. Also think it is time to some how restrict the speed of golf carts maybe certify the carts. And no I dont know how that would work but when a cart passes me on Morse Blvd (and not street legal) and I am doing the speed limit of 30 ( in my car)we really have a problem. Nope dont know how to correct that. Its become me me me here.

Police are giving tickets on Morse. It's a start.

dplars - I don't believe you have ever observed the gaggle of bicycle riders called a club who occasionally tour the historic neighborhoods en masse. Not one of them 'rolls through a stop sign' or goes '5mph' at any time other than when coming to a stop in a pool parking lot! From the vantage point on my lanai I observe them ride 2/3/4/ abreast down the street and then turn left - without stopping at the stop sign - as a swarm of humanity. They demonstrate no concept of avoiding a challenge with a car or a cart; nor do they demonstrate concern for same.

Has anyone seen the accident reports where a "gaggle" of bicycles hit a semi truck and caused extensive damage to the truck? Or a bicyclist hit a golf cart and the impact threw the cart driver out of his vehicle? Or how about a bicyclist in The Villages that ran a stop sign and clipped a passing car causing extensive body damage to the car. All the bicyclists were perfectly unharmed. No, of course, that never happened.

Let's face it, it is the bicyclists who are at greatest danger. Please just let us old duffers enjoy our exercising. This is a retirement community. We are supposed to be mellow and enjoying life. I, personally, am not against any group of Villagers. I believe in Live and Let Live.

Bikes not so much and they mostly appear to think they own the road. Just my opinion and yes we all have one.
Being an avid bike rider I got pulled into one of these threads a month or so and don't want to plow that ground again. I will say I think you need a hug virgind.

And yet there are so many that demand "their" lane. Good luck with the "gaggle" in the bike club entering a roundabout as if they are in the peloton in a Tour de France stage.
