Not me! I couldn't have a nap outside without thinking I'd be 'visited'...

We live on a preserve and see plenty of wildlife - bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, possums - but, while they may be partially-acclimated to humans, they are still basically wild and should not be approached or encouraged to approach you (with food etc.)

True. Black bears are by nature timid creatures most of the time, though they can be dangerous in certain situations such as when they think their cubs are being threatened. We used to encounter them a fair amount of the time when camping in the BWCA on the Northern MN - Ontario border. You can reason with a bear: usually when they're looking to raid your camp because they smell food banging a couple of kettles together and yelling loudly will convince them to leave. Some people do carry handguns against the off chance that this-or-that bear decides to get aggressive.

For myself, I worry a lot more about moose up there than I do about bears. Moose are nearsighted, surly, and stupid--not a good combination. I heard one story about a moose attacking a train up near Tofte, MN. Having one come after you on your camping trip would NOT be a fun experience.

Do Florida bears hibernate since it doesn't get that cold?

Thought that an interesting question, too. Found this: Florida Black Bear - Sharons Florida.

Florida black bears do not hibernate, but rather go into a semi-hibernation state known as torpor. In Florida they may do so only during extremely severe winter weather. Torpor tends to be more common in females who den when they are producing cubs. The female may stay in her den for a few months.

I’ve watched this webcam for many years now. Always look forward to the cams going live, and the salmon arriving on the river. Fun times!

Chitty Chatty has major mosquito issues because of those preserves and the amount of swamp area there.

I'd rather just see the picture of the bear.

Nice pic! A few houses down from me, a neighbor has seen bears many times coming outa the preserve. Wild boar too. It's kinda like living in 'Wild Kingdom'.

Are you saying the preserve shouldn't be there?
