Default Bookless Library?

I recently received an email from TV which referred to the Savannah Regional Recreation Center Bookless Library. The term "Bookless Library" is interesting, but I have no idea what it means. I'm not in TV yet, so does anyone know about the Bookless Library at Savannah?

I was hoping someone would respond to this because I'm not familiar with the term either. And is it only at Savannah? (whatever it is)

Let's see... no books and no phones. I guess that would be a card room!?! I'll post what I learn.

It's a trend that can be both mourned and embraced. Law libraries went bookless years ago. Universities will no doubt accelerate the trend, as keeping up with expanding knowledge in all fields is an expensive proposition in print; and new print editions of text and reference books necessarily lag new discoveries. Amazon has enabled expansion of this trend by aggressively persueing virtual publication of text books and making larger textbook-friendly e- readers.

There will surely be a place for this trend in public and small community libraries as it makes feasible the exponential expansion of collection that would otherwise be space prohibitive. Virtual libraries could easily become a featured amenity for both senior and family- friendly communities with clubhouse facilities.

It need not replace traditional libraries (although it might). As a supplement to them though, I see little reason not to embrace it.

The Bookless Library at Savannah is the room which has 12 computers for accessing the Internet. So there ya go... confusing terminology for something that most of us already knew was there.

A computer room is now a Bookless Library. Wow. Does that make my stove a Woodless Oven and my cart a Caddyless Golf Cart? If I bring my e-reader into the bathroom (not saying that I do), does that become my Bookless Library?
