The Villages has its own Relocation Service. They’re very helpful.

Get 3-4 estimates from United, Allied, Mayflower and Bekins. Make sure you show them everything and get binding estimates.

Hello,

I am from LI.

Nowadays, the hard part is just scheduling a mover.
In march of last year it was a bit dodgey.
Now with further COVID stupidity, who knows.
Also expect to pay a lot more for a move down as compared to going back up.
Great time to leave NY, horrible time to move.

PM me as I am looking to sell in the next months if you have not purchased already.

When I moved in 2019, I used the Relocation Services offered by The Villages. Three movers come to your home and provide you with an estimate for the move -- you select the mover that best meets your needs. I had the movers pack the dishes and other breakable items. The move went extremely well -- all the furniture arrived without any damage and all the dishes and other items that they packed arrived safely -- not one item was broken. There is no cost to you to use the service. The Relocation Service is listed on The Villages website.

Good luck with your move -- Welcome to The Villages!

I hate to bad mouth a business, but........
I used Atlas to move from central NY

I hope my little slide show file comes through, it may not, so suffice it to say it was bad.

After packing half the "stuff" myself, I had emergency surgery and the moving company had to finish. They screwed up royally, despite explicit instructions. After 4 days of packing they gave me 34 sheets of paper to sign at the last minute that listed 1,296 items. Sadly, I signed it without looking. Imagine my surprise when damaged items appeared in Florida, and they told me it "was like that". I looked at those 34 pages and lo and behold, ALL 1,296 items were marked as "damaged" on ALL 6 sides. They must have thought I was living in a junk shop. To their surprise, 1,288 of the 1,296 items had absolutely NO DAMAGE. I invited them to speculate as to whether their piece of paper would stand up in court despite my signature. Naturally, they declined and fixed what they could.

Just some food for thought. I know of some northern residents who paid lots of money to move all their stuff here and once it got here they hated the way it looked in their new Florida home. Just looked dated and oddly out of place.

Maybe your stuff us beautiful and has lots of sentimental value, but also consider a complete do-over with a whole new lighter fresher style for your new Florida home.

Just think about it. It might be a better choice to avoid the cost and aggravation of hiring a mover.

Everyone wants their stuff from up there brought down here . Then you find it doesn’t fit and no storage to speak of. So, you give it away to Goodwill, the charity stores, or consignment places for almost nothing. And you’ll pay a fortune to ship it here. Get rid of most of your clothes, give to the family all the stuff you say they will get one day, sell the furniture with the house or apartment, buy new here. Check out PODS, (metal shipping containers) for what ever is left.

Do you think that whatever the relocation service charges is not in your moving bill?
