I love the Morse family. This has NOTHING to do with them. Noone ever spread any PROPAGANDA to me from them in any way about how safe this place is. Do not say mean stuff about the paper for no GOOD reason. Nobody needs anything to sell this place, it sells itself. This is MY town and I LOVE it. I live here year 'round. Ich bin ein Villager!

This is a very safe community but there are always those who want to take instead of work.

We are safer HERE than most places because we don't work. We mostly move around this area doing our stuff and keeping our SAGE eyes peeled. Not much escapes us and these guys are gonna get caught because one of us seniors is gonna see something and say something.

We are neighborhood watch on STEROIDS.

Don't MESS with old people. Girls? Hot water with vinegar. We will seek them out.

Merry Christmas y'all.

What is the worst crime you know of personally in The Villages? Did it occur because of outsiders in The Villages or was it an issue in The Villages? When did this crime occur?
Well..... according to the following site:The Villages crime rates and statistics - NeighborhoodScout
there have been 60 violent crimes in the last year. How many of these were you aware of?
The site states that although we have an overall low crime rate, we have a violent crime rate comparable to other cities of our size. Interesting information. "Now let us turn to take a look at how The Villages does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in The Villages.

NeighborhoodScout's research shows that The Villages's violent crime rate is 1 per one thousand inhabitants, which is about average for all communities in America, across all population sizes. Violent crimes that are tracked and included in this rate are armed robbery, aggravated assault, forcible (not statutory) rape, and murder and non-negligent manslaughter. Roughly similar to the national average, our analysis shows that your chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in The Villages is one in 857."

Now, in my opinion, it will get worse. Increased population, mostly elderly, will APPEAR as easy pickings to professional criminals.

AWWW come on. There is no conspiracy to cover things up. Plus we have us here on TOTV who report all rumors etc.
Below this is from the article YOU linked.

"About The Villages crime rates
With a crime rate for both violent and property crime combined of 9 per 1,000 residents, the crime rate in The Villages is one of the lower rates in America among communities of all sizes (lower than 82% of America's communities). One's chance of becoming a victim of crime in The Villages is one in 113. Compared to communities within Florida, The Villages‘s crime rate is lower than nearly 96% of the state's cities and towns.
Additionally, NeighborhoodScout analyzed all cities and towns in America with a similar population size to The Villages, and we found that the crime rate in The Villages is one of the lowest in the nation for its size. This means The Villages is one of the safest places in America in which to live for its size, a very important finding.
The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined.
Now let us turn to take a look at how The Villages does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in The Villages.

Roughly similar to the national average, our analysis shows that your chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in The Villages is one in 857.
NeighborhoodScout's analysis of property crime reveals that the property crime rate in The Villages is below average to all cities and towns in the nation. This means that you are less likely to become a victim of arson, motor vehicle theft, larceny, or burglary in The Villages than in most communities in America. Your chance of becoming a victim of property crime if you live here? Just one in 130."

I didn't say there was ANY conspiracy. I did state that the site said we have an overall lower crime rate. I did post the link.
Now.....as I asked, did you know that there were 60 violent crimes in the last year? If not, why? Just asking a legitimate question. Hey, maybe the 60 number is wrong.

Also, they will catch the person who did this and I will bet it is someone who works at this end of town, which is why the burglaries are occurring here. Just my thought.
I understood you perfectly, Happinow. I think some people actually get on here simply to be contrary in the privacy of their own homes...something they may not have the nerve to do in person. Anyway...guess we better get moving...apparently living north of 466 is the place to be...no burglaries, and your word gets to be gospel!!

[QUOTE=buggyone;799679]So, after 4 pages of posts, I saw absolutely NOTHING of this being a THIRD burglary on Adrienne Way - I claim it DID NOT HAPPEN.

Just some of the "I heard it happened" from neighbors at the pool or rec centers but NOTHING to substantiate what happened - which was NOTHING.

I am glad I do not live South of 466A!!![/QUOTE

Because our area has been burgled, because YOU can't verify something apparently you know nothing about, or just because it's something dull to say?

This is called changing the subject and diffusing the tension. Sticking my head in the sand, living in the bubble, ignoring horrible things and living in the Villages. Merry Christmas.

I think the 60 violent crimes for the Villages is incorrect.
To begin the site you linked has the population for TV at 51442.
They do a lot of mashing of numbers and guesstimating. This statement from the site. "We then research and develop mathematical algorithms to statistically estimate the incidences of both violent and property crimes for each neighborhood in America". NOTE: Estimate.
A futher review of their FAQ will yield more misconceptions of their data.

If one is truly interested in crime stats for TV, I would talk to the Sumter County Sheriff, Marion County Sheriff and Lady Lake Police.
Relying/quoting crime info from a Real Estate web site raises a lot of questions.

Definitely, I feel the reported number of 60 violent crimes in The Villages per year is incorrect.

In the 4 years I have lived here, I can only recall a couple of violent crimes besides the murder in 2006 (which was before my time here). One was a woman who shot her husband during a domestic dispute (both were retired police and had guns at home), two assaults with deadly weapons (both happened a couple of Christmasses ago and guns were shown in a threatening way during a dispute over parking spaces at Lake Sumter Landing), and the report of an armed robbery of customers at Gators Dockside.

Can anyone think of others I have missed?

One thing I learned this morning researching(teacher on break without a tee time) it is VERY difficult to get exact records for free(visited Sumter, Lake and Marion websites). Many websites use averages, but the one I cited above appears to be the most accurate and reliable. They use the most recent and relevant data. But I will say, there are more incidents than referenced above by buggy. There was a swat team tear gas episode a couple years ago that I believe was under-reported. Look, I agree that we have a lower crime rate than most places, but I hope some of the latest incidents serve as a wake-up call to the possibilities. As we grow, there will be more issues and the more desperate individuals around us will be making their rounds more often.

I think this may be why the breakins are localized.............
Is anyone else disturbed by this? This is not what i expected when buying into TV. Please don't go on about it happens everywhere. We all did not come to a retirement community to have drug dealers and addicts at the pool and post office area. I am appauled that JIMROY has done nothing about it. Maybe he has and not told us. JIMROY if you have please tell us. I feel like perhaps TV is on a downword slide. Home invasion, kicking in doors and drug addicts are not what you expected when coming here. Try not to attack me or this post. Read between the lines. This is someone who thought they found a wonderful happy place to retire and is finding maybe it's not what it ONCE was.

DO NOT believe every thing posted on here. Read awhile and absorb attitudes and information...or lack of it.. OR go BACK and read some more of what the poster has posted before.
