For what it's worth, I run an email list for my village, and have run it for eight years. I don't abide rumors, and I try to obtain valid information before I tell people that they are just rumors. The person who sent me this is quite reliable, and, in fact, is the type of person who gripes when others send out rumors, so she is just trying to get some facts.

Why the "business man" would start something like this is beyond me. All I want to do is put an end to it, true or not. I know it sounds ridiculous, but the ban on support for parades also sounded ridiculous, but as it turned out, there was some truth to it.

And to answer the other question, yes, I am Dr Jan Bergeron, a retired veterinarian who has lived in The Villages for nine years (come next month). I am on the Advisory Board of the Mac Users Group. And I do not like rumors, hoaxes, urban legends, chain letters, and other related nonsense.

Note to the owners of this forum: I think it is a great place to share information, but I would recommend special forum for Village Rumors, where people could ask legitimate questions about rumors. I certainly get enough of these and spend a lot of time researching them. I did research this one but could not find any information, which is why I posted the question here. I did not expect to be criticized for asking the question.

I am still not convinced that you are not joking, but just in case you are serious, this is the address and phone number to The Villages Entertainment Department:

1070 Canal Street Lady Lake, FL 32162

Just came back from getting my mail. While there I overheard two men talking. One said that starting Monday there will be a viewing charge for people visiting any village with excessive Christmas decorations. A charge of $10 per vehicle would be collected at the village's entrance. Seems that neighbors who live in these villages, and don't decorate, want to cut down on traffic.
Can anyone confirm if this is true?

You just hit on two things I really don't like.
This developer is not open about his plans. Everything has to be rumor and if you don't know the people involved, you never know whether it is true or not, unless it happens. Harold was not like this. The Sun is useless as it prints only what the developer allows. I have had first knowledge of this through getting the advertisers for the Polo Club and the teams. If would take a book with all the going on with Polo. But I have to tell all the sponsors, that even I don't know if it will go private next year. No one knows but there are rumors.!!!

The second thing is how abusive and rude some posters are on this board. Plus they pretend to know it all, and are often so wrong. I have watched this board since 2007 when it started. It has ones who post a great deal and become friends and agree with each other. These groups or a poster can also attack and be mean...as you see how they treated you... But this board is much less mean today with the new owners than it use to be...I applaud the new owners for keeping things in check.

Sorry can't help you with these rumors but let us know if you find out more.

A neighbor sent this email this morning. This is a first-person question from a reliable source, and I am trying to find answers for her. This is the first place I thought to look, and since I can't find anything related to this, I'm forwarding her question.

This is her question:

"This morning while shopping, a business man mentioned that he attended a meeting this morning at Lake Sumter. He told me The Villages will no longer have entertainment at the town squares….starting in Jan. He also mentioned that an estate sale would require a $ 50 permit and 2 “security” type people must be present. Yard sales would no longer be allowed.

Does anyone know if this is true or not? Let’s try and find out before the rumors start flying."

If anyone has any answers, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Jan (BTW, my gender is male)
i honestly don't understand why you would come to totv for your answers rather than go to the sources of the entertainment dept and district gov office!

I also heard that they will be collecting $10 but that it would be used to buy decorations for those that do not decorate. Then they are going to call The Guiness Book of World Reords and try for ANOTHER world record. We got the longest golf cart parade...can't believe we didn't win the kazoo record...maybe we'll get the most decorated 55+ community. Bogie...can you confirm ANY of this

There has been some "discussion" by the entertainment division of The Villages. More answers will come after the meeting on Dec. 18.

Light hearted humor, even when off topic, is fine. However, when the tone is mocking or personally directed at another, then it's gone too far. Apparently, no one has any factual replies to the original rumor, so, this thread will be closed.

Should there be any substance to these rumors, please feel free to start a new thread.

Our apologies to the OP for the not so friendly welcome he received here.
