I am a snowbird who lives here 4 months of every year. What I am seeking is an American bank (preferably internet, but will take consider others). Every bank I've tried so far wants new customers to be a U.S. citizen. I already have a bank which I've had a long time. I guess I got into this bank before they started tightening the rules. But Bank of America pays little or nothing on deposits and CDs.
So fellow Canadians .... can you lead me to the promised land - a bank which accepts Canadian citizens and their U.S. dollars? By the way, I have had a Social Security Number from the U.S. for over 42 years. But that alone is not good enough. Appreciate any help, even including from my fellow TV residents who are U.S. citizens. ![]() |

I'm not Canadian but I bank with RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) here and they have offices in Florida. I'm very pleased with them.

We use Citizens First and have found them very receptive to TD US cheques which I believe clear through either Bank of America or Wells Fargo. We joined the Canadian Snowbirds Ass. and use the US exchange program to transfer $$ before we come down and then I bring Travellers Cheques and a M/O if I want more with me. If necessary I can also write a cheque on the TD US account and deposit it with Citizens First. I opened an RBC bank account in Leesburg and one at RBC in Canada but found out that the fees for exchange and the bank fees were more than the TD or CSA so I have closed both accounts. I also learned that the Leesburg bank is closing so I don't know if you can access $$ through the machine a Publix when that happens. RBC Bank is doing its best to try to hold on to the Canadian customers but I prefer to deal with TD which is our home bank, especially as it is getting easier to do cross border with them.
