New angle to rip off the insurance copies and cause everyone’s rates to go up.
I took my 2025 car in to have the oil changed. One of the first things that was done, even before my service advisor greeted me was to clean my front windshield. Later a person who did not work for the dealership approached me stating that as a courtesy to me, they had inspected my windshield and found several stone chips in it. They said out of safety concerns they could have my insurance company pay to replace my windshield. I had no idea that the chips were even there. I checked and they seemed very small and I was concerned that replacing my windshield was not really necessary. I think that this type of inspection could lead to a lot of insurance claims to replace the front windshield which may not be necessary. It looks like the type of schemes that roofers use to get insurance companies to pay for a new roof. I fear that car insurance will skyrocket even more for what appears to me to be unnecessary windshield replacement. I told them that I would call them after talking to my insurance agent. Has anyone else run into this courtesy windshield check? |

No, haven't heard of it but, sadly, it doesn't surprise me.
Many years ago, in another state, I took my car in for an oil change. Randomly, two days later, I had a tire leak and upon inspection I found a nail in it. I took the car to the same place because it was nearby and they handle and sell tires as well. Well, don't you know, I pulled up to the service bay and what did I notice on the shop floor when I got out of the car? The exact kind of nail that was in my tire. Did they put one in my tire during the oil change? Hhmm... |

Because insurance claims will raise your premium just for scratching your @ss, if I had to replace my windshield, I would
pay for it myself and save a claim for something larger. Today, insurance claims are about large disasters not for a couple hundred dollars. Sad but true. I remember my neighbor years back would call their insurance and submit a claim for a broken window. |

I have to ask but how do they benefit from you getting your windshield replaced unless they recommended a company to do the work. Was it a quickie oil change place or the dealer. I hope if you bought a 2025 car it came with lifetime oil changes sans the windshield replacement, LOL

I just had the windshield on my Acura replaced, it was a $2200 windshield, with camera realignment. It could have been done for less than $600, with an aftermarket windshield. That's a fairly large spread and opportunity for a smart windshield replacement company. |

I had an oil change at Jenkins Honda last week and was recommended a windshield replacement. I went out to look with the Rep and didn't think it was necessary so declined. While sitting in the waiting room they were arranging a windshield replacement with the person sitting next to me.

Service advisor is a commission salesman. Avoid dealers if possible
