Not true.
"You must reside on your homestead property as your primary residence. However, there is no particular amount of time you have to be physically present on the property to qualify for homestead exemption. To qualify for homestead exemption, you have to declare Florida as your permanent residence."

Default This what we paid, for what it’s worth

2 cars (2008 bmw and 2021 Jeep). Registered both vehicles, paid for drivers license change to Florida. $1042 and we had plates for the cars and drivers licenses when we left ( took about 90 minutes start to finish)

Personally I would buy the new car in FL. Why give yourself added regegistration expense, work and aggravation. Just buy it here. Florida has 6% sales tax, vs Texas 6.25% sales tax.

Plan on selling my truck here in TX, 2009 GMC 2500 X-cab 4x4 with 51,000 miles (get a better price here on it) and downsize with a Toyota Tacoma when we get there. Wife has a 2018 Honda Pilot with 91,000 on it, trying to figure out what to do with that. Thanks for all the help.

The Pilot will haul about as much as a Tacoma so keep the Pilot and if you have to really haul something Home Depot or Lowes have the rental trucks for the one time a year you need it as a truck. The Pilot will last a lifetime and will haul four people for the more times you need it than a truck. The fees are what everyone said above as we just got one vehicle transferred before the out of state plates expire this week. My 2 cents.

Have to be honest with you not happy with the pilot. Had a 2008 Honda Accord and had it for 10 years with no problems, got the 2018 Pilot and had a lot of cosmetic problems with it. Now the transmission light is flashing, dumping it and getting a Toyota Highlander. I'm getting a mid-size truck for myself, I hunt and fish around the country, spend a lot of time in Kansas bow hunting.

If your wife enjoys driving that car, then keep it and drive it.

That is what we do with our 2003 Acura.
