The big difference is that centurylink is fiberoptic (think fios).

I signed up with them in person at their office on 441 in front of Target July of last year they mentioned that they were connected with Directv, however after they brought out Prism TV that kind of went off the radar. I believe they initially said I would get $5 a month off my Directv bill and within a year they would be able to combine their bill with my Directv bill, that hasn't happend and I've never pursued the $5 discount. I asked this question on another thread, but did not get a reply there. How do you determine whether or not you have fiber optic phone cabling? We are in Pennecamp, the neighborhood is 2-3 yrs old.

Not 100% foolproof, but if the cable into the house is round, it's probably copper coax. If it's flat, it's probably fiberoptic. The fiber cable may also have printing on the outside indicating glass fiber.
