Ye Old Thrift Shop in Lady Lake is no longer closed for renovation. They have been open for over a month. It’s a great shop! I was told the money goes to hospice but don’t see that mentioned anywhere on their Facebook page. I also like to give to the Sheriff’s Ranch Thrift store at 27900 US Highway 27, Leesburg. It’s a little bit of a drive, but I stop there when I come back from visiting the Yalaha Bakery off of Hwy 48. Their money goes to support all their good works, including the Boys and Girls Ranches they have throughout Florida. They’re a great organization.

Florida Sherriff's Ranch Store on Highway 27 in Leesburg. 100 percent of the monies goes to the cause of helping under privileged children here in central Florida. Such a worthy cause. see below:

Default A word about Goodwill

Please, Please do some online research about where the real money goes if you donate to Goodwill. You will find that in Goodwill Industries, the vast majority of the funds raised go to the upper and mid-level management. Your donation doesn't necessarily go to the people you really are trying to help. I am not saying, "don't donate to Goodwill" as they do some very good things such as mentioned in other posts. However, do understand where your donations really go. There are many local groups that are primarily made of volunteers and their efforts end up by helping locals and people in real need. Our church, "The Garden Worship Center" has one such shop and even ships appropriate clothing to impoverished countries. There is also, "Bargains and Blessings" just south of the corner of 466A and 301 on the West side of 301. It is also a church-based organization. Doing our best to help those in need is always a good thing. Almost forgot, the Salvation Army organization also does a good job of using their funds wisely and keeping their costs low, and giving appropriately. They have a store in Leesburg and will pick up here in The Villages. The Villages is made up of many, many Giving hearts, PLEASE, keep up that good heart. PS - thank you for your giving heart.

Hadassah has a thrift shop in Mt. Dora, right on the edge of the downtown shopping blocks. You could make a day of it - drop off your old stuff, shop around a bit, have lunch, sit on the lake and watch the boats, walk a little more, drive home.

Default Donation of Clothing, Etc.

Haven of Lake & Sumter Counties in Leesburg is a wonderful non-profit organization serving battered and abused women; they can always use ladies' shoes, clothing, etc. both for clients as well as for resale in the attached thrift shop. There's a Salvation Army post almost directly across South Street (Hwy 44) from the Haven, and that's another "preferred" organization for my donations. Personally, I stopped donating to Goodwill a few years ago inasmuch as something less than 100% of donations go to fulfilling its stated mission -- not "bashing", just saying. Bless you for thinking of others!

It is more of a business with PAID staff. As far as charitable, most of what they raise goes to pay their staff.
Goodwill stores have used the money to train people to get jobs. They have schools to help educate & improve their job skills. Those working at those stores are less fortunate & are willing to learn a skill. They have a school in Jacksonville to help them learn to get a trade
. I think it is an excellent idea instead of just giving everything a way for free. The stores allow those less fortunate to shop for clothes & items that is affordable for them.

I donate my time and at Bargains & Blessings on 301.
They do so much for the community it is hared to realize.
There are at least 36 people per day that donate their time to help. Every
